We left Friday morning bright and early on our journey to Albuquerque, NM. It started sprinkling early on and advanced to some heavy rain. I washed Lola's outside skins on Wednesday so she'd look "ready for the party", and was going to wash Bart's too (our tv), but heard about the rain coming so decided against it. That was a good thing because we drove through construction in Kentucky during the heavy rain, and now they both look as though they have limestone dust on them -- we've been looking for a truck wash.
We stayed at Kentucky Dam Village State Resort Park in the area of Kentucky called "Land Between the Lakes", and it was a real treat. A special is going on now for $12/night for seniors with electric and water. This is an older state park but was well maintained and very much a family campground. We discovered we were parked next to a MOHO that was from about one hour's drive from our home, and the family was super nice. They were there so that the wives could go to the large quilt show in Paducah, KY.
From there we travelled on the Western Kentucky Parkway which then turned into Purchase Parkway and later the name changed again, both in Kentucky and Tennessee; all were super roadways, very smooth and not heavily travelled at all except for a short piece which was being repaved.
Tonight, our second night, we are staying at a lovely COE campground around Ozark, Arkansas; with senior pass, it is $10/night with electric and water. This campground is so well maintained, nicely mowed, each site has a firepit; small grill on stand; and over the picnic table is an awning, and our site is on the water within sight of the dam. Extremely clean! We'd highly recommend this campground. We believe all sites are paved and our section has a paved area for your tv as well.
We are really looking forward to meeting everyone in Albuquerque. We've had a problem with one of our stainless steel rock guards -- the aluminum frame around it broke and allowed the rock guard to vibrate against our skin. We tried to rerivet the frame together, but it still vibrated. DH thinks it may have been put onto our trailer incorrectly when new, as we had a problem with it before but thought we had fixed it. We're hoping someone at the Academy will know something about them and give us some ideas.
Our camp hosts here told us we may have some severe weather to drive through tomorrow and to watch the forecasts -- very nice of them to alert us.
For those other who are travelling to the Academy, looking forward to meeting you and safe travels.
