On short term disability for neuropathy

samedi 18 juillet 2015

ive posted my history before: quick synopsis: small fiber neuropathy, meds: tramadol, TENS, unit, cannot take any narcotics/antidepressants/anti seizures due to sensitivities....extreme burning, pain, muscle weakness, sentivity to touch in hands and feet, all blood tests done, no cause found, MRI, X-ray, EMG/NCV....I'm idiopathic....after all that I have recently initiated short term disability, I've been working very long hours on my feet all day manipulating glassware, extractions, etc in a laboratory and I couldn't endure that day to day extreme pain anymore, my pain levels are more tolerable now and I'm not in tears everyday. After the first week home it's been so much better, it's stressful though because I haven't heard if I'm approved yet?!?!? I'm unsure of what to do, return to the same job....that seems silly, I've spoken to my boss about transferring to another area in the lab, which I had asked before I left but to no avail, I don't think she really gets what's wrong with me even though I tried to explain it to her and she doesn't seem to care, she just needs me there to do assays and that's it...find another job? Previous career before microbiologist is accounting, it took me 15 years to get me BA degree in biology only to throw it away because of this, I don't understand what I'm supposed to do! I'm married, 3 kids, I carry the benefits and make the higher salary, it's a lot of pressure to let this career go, I've worked so very hard for it, BUT ON THE OTHER HAND, I'm experiencing the lowest pains levels since being diagnosed with this, I'm happier since I'm not working, who can make a living like this though, I really need some suggestions as to what to do! I'm not sure how to proceed, STD FOR 6 weeks, possibly more, haven't gotten approved yet as mentioned before. Any wisdom would be great
