Hello,
I was diagnosed with functional dyspepsia about 2 years ago; however, I have not found a way to manage it very well (is this even possible?). Therefore, I have a few questions about my symptoms and if the diagnosis is even correct.
My symptoms:
Postprandial excessive fullness after certain meals
-seems I can control for most part by managing portion size and food consumed
Burping up Acid
-I never feel the need to burp; however, forced burping temporarily relieves stomach pain altogether; Never burp up gas, always regurg or acid
-Seems more correlated with my drinking habits (Not alcohol, just love gatorade and Hi-C)
General Stomach Ache
-This occurs after every meal regardless but the discomfort level can vary greatly; I will explain.
Of everything that is wrong with me, the one I cannot understand is that the level of discomfort is (For the most part) largely dependent on my posture and activity level after eating.
-If I were to sit up straight/stand and not move after eating, the indigestion/ache will be much, much less
-If I were to even walk at a brisk pace, much less run around, I would be at the point of throwing up with extremely uncomfortable stomach aches and indigestion.
-In addition, chewing gum can drastically relieve stomach ache/fullness. Even after larger meals which cause me prolonged excessive fullness, I will feel slightly better when I chew gum.
-Forced burping, where I regurg/burp up acid (typically after a couple hours post eating) will temporarily relieve discomfort
Also, although I have not had a emptying test, I suspect I may have delayed emptying; however, this would not make since team because although I feel full after certain meals for up to 2 hours, I can manage to eat 3000 calories a day and feel hungry for the most part every 3 hours/have no accompanying nausea/multiple bowel movements.
The symptoms I am describing make since given the diagnosis of functional dyspepsia; however, what makes them worse do not.
Of all my time reading every health board online, I have not found one person who complains that simply not moving after eating and keeping a good posture will drastically reduce symptoms.
Now let me briefly summarize my health history/exams:
Abdominal Ultrasound-Normal
Blood Work- Raised Eosinophils (I will explain)
Colonoscopy-Normal
Endoscopy- Eosinopihilic Esophagitis (Cured by Flovent, made little difference to stomach pain)
Elimination Diet for Allergies: Little Difference in stomach pain
Gluten Free- No Difference
Supplements:
-Slippery Elm- No
-Iberogast- Trying; so far No
-Licorice DGL; No
-Peppermint Oil- No
-Digestive Enzymes-No
-Betain HCL- No
-Acupuncture- No
-PPI's- Seem to make stomach more sensative; must note that as a child, I experienced similar pains and this cured me for atleast 4 years prior to remission
As you can see, I have tried to expose my self to a variety of supplements and exam to make my life more manageable. It's not very easy to be restricted to a chair or to be solitary for atleast 2 hours after eating, especially in the working world.
In addition, something that makes it extremely hard is my passion for weightlifting. In order to gain and maintain my weight, I have to essentially eat 3000 and 2500 calories, respectively! (I am a mess)
-Have not found that eating smaller and more frequent meals work much better than larger meals
Any suggestions would be of help.
Thanks
