Refrigerator and battery drainage

I can't remember where I read this on the forum but disconnecting the ac plug for the refrigerator will reduce the battery drain since the inverter need not be running in order to run the refrigerator. Am I correct on this issue? If I am correct what other items can run with the inverter shut down? Just trying to get a better understanding of the electrical system for future boondocking adventures. My Airstream is a 2013 interstate ext on a 2012 MB Sprinter. Any help will be much appreciated.
