Problem Drawers

The two drawers in my hanging wardrobe have a habit of overcomming their latchs and slaming into the door on sharp turns knocking the door open. There is about a 2" gap between the inside of the closed door and the drawer fronts. As a temperary measure we stuffed a towel into the gap so the drawers didn't move but perhaps someone could suggest a bit more elegant fix?
