Just pulled the trigger on a 2011 Acadia, which will eventually replace the aging pick-em-up truck, to pull the 73 Safari (3800lb empty/5800gvw).
The Lamda platform is mentioned quite a bit here, but mostly scattered about in different places. I thought it would be nice to have one thread to post real-world experience, mods, pics, and what have you.
The model we got is an SLT, with the factory tow package, and 19" wheels with P255/55R19 tires. (stock from the factory--goodyears). It rides like a Caddy; very smooth, and quiet, but the handling still seems plenty firm. I know quite a few people have mentioned changing tires from stock on these, but I'm wondering if that is going to be necessary, here, as these are fairly low-profile already. (Overall wheel height is another issue, though--these would be 31", according to an online tire size calculator).
Here's a minor concern: will the tail-gate clear the tongue jack on the trailer, when hooked up?
Anyone got any pics of the Can-Am hitch modification?
It'll be a while before I'm able to actually pull the camper, as it is under renovation. (need to get busy on that, again ). But I expect that this vehicle should do a fine job, considering the reports from people pulling much larger, heavier trailers than I will.
