I'm looking for advice as to the best route from Mt. Rainier to Port Angeles. The Hwy 3 route through Tacoma and Bremerton or through Olympia and up the 101? The Tacoma-Bremerton route appears shorter but having never been through there, is the highway a 55mph road like 101?
Socket for Stabilizer Jacks
I have the original hand crank for my AS trailer's stabilizer jack's legs. The working end of the threaded rod on the stabilizer legs has two raised "nubs" that fit into keyed slots in the socket of the hand crank. I found that a 3/4" socket attached to a cordless screwdriver works nicely to run the stabilizer jacks up and down. Unfortunately the nubs on one of the stabilizer bars must be worn down enough that the 3/4" socket slips over the nubs.
I want to purchase a socket with the two keyed slots, but I can't find anything like this. Does anyone know if such a thing is available? I would prefer not to use a different smaller socket for just one of the legs for simplicities sake.
Another active post reminded me to ask this question. If I should have attached this post to that one would a moderator please move it?

Boondocking just S of Grand Canyon
Yes a few helicopters over head but we are in the park most of the time during the day. Off FR 302 in Tusayan dry camping and it is so wonderful.
Off to more boondocking in a few days at Lake Mead but just loving this!

The scales story
I took our Classic loaded with all personal gear and water in the fresh tank and the truck loaded with nearly all gear we would take boon docking to the local Love's CAT scales. I crossed the scales with the trailer attached, then dropped the trailer at the back of their lot (leaving the ProPride stinger in place in the truck receiver) and crossed with the trailer only.
The results are in the top half of the spread sheet below.
The next day, I took my two sets of four wheel scales to the storage unit and jacked the unit up on each side to slide a scale under each wheel and the jack stand. The results are in the bottom half of the spread sheet.
Adding to the original empty weight is the 800 watt solar installation with four 92 pound lifeline batteries on the front in a stainless steel enclosure and a Magnum converter/inverter and the disc brake conversion.
My 2013 25FB International Serenity was heavy by several hundred pounds on the curb side rear wheel and so is the Classic. A friend stated today he has replaced the curb side rear tire several more times on his 2005 25' Airstream than the other three due to more loading. I wonder if many Airstream rear curb side wheels seem to have a heaver loading?
The numbers show I still have lots of weight capacity in both the truck and the Airstream. The truck has a 5,500 pound rated front axle and a 6,010 pound rated rear axle so legally can have a 11,510 gross vehicle weight. The trailer has another 900 pounds or so load capacity. The gross combination vehicle weight is 20,000 pounds.

Hand crank for stabilizers?
Totally noob question here - but what the heck is the name of the hand crank tool that you use with the stabilizers on the trailer (in my case, a 2012 27FB Flying Cloud in case they're different from year to year or trailer to trailer).
The one that came with the trailer didn't last more than a few trips. The head wasn't permanently affixed and fell off. I'd like to replace it with something similar but MUCH sturdier but I don't even know what name I'm searching for (or size for that matter - it's the same size as the WD jacks on the ProPride - that's another reason I want to replace the tool - was using an impact wrench to raise/lower those and broke the roll pin inside one of the jacks! )
Thanks in advance for your insights and alternatives if you have suggestions. Thanks!

Topsail Tram to Beach
so 1.5 weeks and we will be in topsail for 7 days WOOHOOOO. Our first week long trip in the AS and first real vacation in 1.5 years....we need some relaxation..well as much as you can get with 2 small children anyway.
Question:
How frequently does that truck with the passenger trailer shuttle folks to the beach through the days there? Is it constant that he is going back and forth?
I am planning on borrowing my brothers tow behind bike thing to pull my 2 kids around for bike rids, and so we could do that to the beach, but would need me to buy something else to pull behind us for the beach stuff for person not towing kids...
My hope is, is that I will NOT do this as it just sounds clunky and rely on that shuttle....
Any feedback on it? Of course we can always just make the walk and enjoy that, but just wondering and getting itchy to do this.

'78 Sovereign's Dometic fridge/freezer not working
So, for the last couple months I have been slowly repairing/restoring the AS and have kept drinks n stuff in fridge & freezer. I have had it running on electric for most of the time; however, after moving it some and "shimming" it to make it fit the original cabinetry, it has quit working!! Any ideas?
Leak
Hi, at moment I feel like I am living in a car wash, it is raining so hard.. Pretty big amount of water traversing across the floor. Enough to wring out about 33% of a beach towel:(
Seems to be coming in between the fridge and some built in box under the bed of my 2006 ccd 19' Bambi. There is about a 2" wide tunnel of empty space ( directly below foot of bed) that when I put my fingers up in there was very wet.
I just had everything sealed, new fan vovers, vents, all around outside etc etc( well I guess not everything), i think it has something to do with fridge vents, but really have no idea what to do next. It has never been wet on my floor, or under the bed. Any expert help would be appreciated. Thank you.

Hitch Problem with New Ram 2500
Well I should have taken this into consideration when I traded my Chevy Avalanche in on the Ram 2500. Went to move the Airstream tonight and the coupler/angle of the trailer looked like it was ready for take off. I have used a Reese weight distribution hitch with our Avalanche without issue...but then it was set for the truck.
Now I've got a problem. I would like to stay with the Reese system and distribution bars. But after measuring from the top of the hitch opening (24") and bottom of the coupler (13") find myself about 11" to high. What options do I have at this point? Look for an 11" drop? Do they even make such a thing? Can I use anything off my current hitch? Thanks for the help!

Propane Fire rings on the teat
Hey folks,
I impulsively bought a propane fire ring for, well, atmosphere probably more than heat outside, but I was reluctant to buy the propane bottle to go with it because I'm miserly on space. Is there a safe and acceptable means of hooking it up to the big tank on my motor home? Could just ask the propane guy if there's an adapter but I though I'd better check with you first.
Thanks in advance for your wise counsel..

1975 Airstream Safari
Looking to get an appraisal on my 1975 Airstream Safari. I'm located in the Dallas / Ft Worth area. Does anyone know of someone who can do these types of appraisals?
Sewer gas question for any who parks inside
I have a question for anyone who parks their Interstate in an enclosed non-ventilated space. We are working on an addition to our house that will include a fully finished (insulated and drywalled) garage space for our AI to live a pampered life indoors (and out of the Oklahoma hail!). What I am wondering about is sewer gas from the black tank vent and if that is going to stink up my garage. I'm thinking about putting a bathroom vent fan in the ceiling positioned so it will sit right over the black and grey tank vents ... but I'm not sure if that is necessary or conversely if it will be sufficient. We use our AI as a run around town vehicle so while the tank gets dumped every couple of weeks it will definitely have odiferous contents in it while sitting parked indoors. Does anyone have any real world experience with this?
1993 Airstream Excella 25 - New York
Title: 1993 Airstream Excella 25 - New York
We just listed our 1993 Airstream Excella for Sale on Airstream Classifieds.
Year: 1993 Make: Airstream Model: Excella Length: 25'
1993 AIRSTREAM Classic Excella 25. This trailer is in very good condition, inside and out. The Excella is 25 feet long, with a double axle with good tires. All the systems are working great including: electric, water and LP gas systems. The other utilities such as : AC, hot water tank, heater, fans, refrigerator, microwave and stove and oven are also in very good working order. The beautiful oak cabinets throughout the AIRSTREAM have raised panels. Twins beds and nightstand in rear. Clean, clean, clean. The subfloor is good and sturdy with no soft spots. The wheel bearings have recently been repacked. Good brakes. A stabilizer unit is part of the package. Great ZipDee awning. Plenty of storage. Easy to pull, too. The outer shell has no dings or dents, but there is a bit of pealing of the clear coat finish which is common among AIRSTREAMS of this era.
A very well respected, long time AIRSTREAM dealer looked at my pictures and suggested that based on the condition of this trailer it would be retail at $20,000. We would like to pass this wonderful AIRSTREAM along to someone who will enjoy it as much as we have for the last 7 years.
Clear and good Title.
We are asking $16,500 for this great rig.

Surge Guard protectors with locking hasp
We purchased a portable Surge Guard protector, model 34750, with a locking hasp accessory. Has anyone experienced a problem with these devices in terms of being able to easily plug them into the power station for the RV park and having excessive power interruptions?
Also, regarding the hasp to protect the device from theft, it appears a thief could simply unplug the power cord from the RV camp receptacle and remove the surge guard and then unplug the power cord from the trailer. Maybe I don't understand how it works.
Any advice on their subject?

hot water flow in shower tapers off

2011 Flying Cloud FB27 lug nut size?
Hello,
We recently purchased a 2011 Flying Cloud FB27. After much research, I purchased a torque wrench, breaker bar and extension. I've decided the correct torque for lug nuts is 110 ft lbs. Does anyone know the lug nut size? I want to purchase a deep-well socket, 1/2 in drive, 6 point. I think the correct size is 13/16? Can anyone confirm/
Thx,
Jim:huh:

Any advice on new Tacoma?
I'm seriously considering buying a 2014 Tacoma PreRunner V6 to tow a 16 ft Sport that will be delivered in a few weeks. My 2009 Rav4 V6 is rated for 3500lbs and could probably work for a while around Florida but I want something more suitable before heading cross country. Any advice on the Tacoma...models, options, etc. that I should think about? Buy now or wait for the 2015's to come out?

Intl Sig 30RB Lounge - Where is the Dual Coax?
We just took delivery of our new 2014 International Signature 30RB Lounge. Yay!
Trying to get our satellite going. The manual says the dual coax faceplate is by the bedroom television but it is not there. This is the wall plate that has two coax connectors that allows us to place our tuner/DVR in the line between the satellite and the television. It worked great with our 2007 Safari.
Thanks...

I am trying to weigh the advantage of owning an airstream compared to a standard driveable RV. I do understand the value of being able to leave the trailer behind, as you drive your vehicle on day trips. Aside from that?????
O.K. So let's say you convince me it is better to buy an airstream. Now what. How do you go about assuring yourself you are not going to end up with someone else's problems. I really do NOT want to buy a bucket of rivets, if you know what I mean.
What is the best size for towing great distances, e.g. to Alaska, and thru Canada, from the U.S.? Thanks in advance. ray

Maiden voyage - Gettysburg
Just got back from a week long trip to Gettysburg, PA. We stayed at the Drummerboy Camp Grounds. It was the off season so the rates seemed pretty reasonable, 4 nights was just under $200. They were accomidating and let us check in at 1300 instead of the normal 1500.
We stayed in a premium slot (drive through, mostly level, wooded, cable, sewer, water, and 50/30A). I did not experience any electrical issues and did not have a surge or line conditioner since this was my first time. The site had a fire ring and picnic table. The slot was mostly level, slight downward grade from hook ups towards the front of the trailer. I will bring leveling pads next time as I maxed out my jack. The trees had not quite grown their leaves so the trees did not provide much privacy, but we had decent spacing. A couple of the other places I looked at were compact and wedged everyone in like sardines.
The campground is to the east of the town of Gettysburg about 5 minutes from the Battlefield and the town. You can take the highway to avoid the town traffic. They offer a military discount. There is also free wifi during the off-season which had decent coverage and speeds. They also have a pool but does not open until May. Other ammenities are public bathrooms/showers, snack bar, mini-theater, playgrounds, tent and picnic areas, cabins, free fishing lake, and emergency grocery store. They are also pet friendly, except in the bathrooms/showers.
We did not expect to spend a whole day at the Park's Battlefield visitor's center. There is parking for trailers/buses at the visitor's center but would avoid it if possible. We also spend a day touring the battlefield using the audio tour CD and were only able to hit half the sites. I suppose if you do not stop and get out at each site (and without kids) you could finish it in 2 hrs. :p
The only other museums I liked was the Gettysburg Diorama and my boys 7 and 11 liked the train museum. The rest of the museums seemed like people cobbled together a bunch of stuff they collected and charged addmission.
If you want to do the Battlefield I would plan on 1 day for the visitor center, 1 day for the town sightseeing, and 2-3 days of the battlefield. I recommend you bring bikes so you can park your vehicle and ride your bikes on the paved trails. While you can drive parking can be a problem during the peak season.
For a nice lunch I recommend Eddie's Bar/grill. Their crab dip was excellent. If your kid's are 12 and younger get the kid's meals. They are half the price and the same size as the adult's (at least the hamburgers were) plus they get a desert. The other sandwiches are decent, nothing earth shattering.
There was one grocery store in town called Kennie's and had most common items at reasonable prices, but if you are looking for ethnic items better bring them yourself. There was also a Walmart nearby as well. RV parking is limited to 1 hr there. Plan to drop your trailer then get gas. Most of the gas stations are very small. Only the Sunco is big but the turns are tight if you had to get a trailer to the diesel pump.

1962 Trade Wind Door MISSING!
Hello all, the wife and I are considering buying our first Airstream. It is a local 24' 1962 Trade Wind and is fairly complete and priced right. The only major problem is the main entrance door is missing! Is this a deal breaker? Will it be impossible to find and put back on? Will it cost $$$?
Please help, Thanks!
Please help, Thanks!
Hitch lever needed
Anyone know where to pick up a hitch lever handle for our 2009 classic? Not sure of exact name, it is the part you hold and lift to release the ball. Stopped at JC on the trip north but they only sell the entire unit, not just the handle, and had no spare used ones. Ours is mangled badly, tho still useable. Thanks
17# Composite Propane Cylinders
I just discovered that my AS has two-10# propane cylinders instead of the two-20# ones that it originally came equipped with.
I was flushed with excitement because this was the opportunity that I had been waiting for to upgrade to aluminum cylinders. Unfortunately, the inside height of the aluminum bottle shield will accept 20# steel cylinders, but is too short to handle 20# aluminum cylinders. It seems that AS needed to rivet the top part of the cover a couple of inches higher to allow the aluminum cylinders to fit.
So I decided to throw out the playbook and go for two 17# composite cylinders from Viking Cylinders. These babies only weigh 10 lbs. each vs. about 18 lbs. each for steel. For you with the big AS trailers this might not seem like a big deal, but for us 16-footers it will add some much needed cargo capacity, or help to offset the weight of a larger battery.
Can I cost-justify the decision? Nope. Is it the most economical solution? Nope. Will I be able to see the liquid levels in my tanks? Yep!
I'm interested in your feedback, comments and criticisms regarding my decision.

Free Camping Recipes Cookbook - Kindle Download

Just thought I'd share this link to a free Kindle download. The book is 100 Easy Camping Recipes by Bonnie Scott. Right now, it's free for the Kindle (or the Kindle for the PC). But that could change at any time.
I'm not necessarily recommending the book - I don't know the author and I haven't had a chance to look through the book, but hey, it's free!

New to me '84 Sovereign
Hello everyone and thanks for having me.
I'm about to buy a 1984 31' Sovereign. I would have had it already but we're having some title issues. Nothing insurmountable.
This is going to be my first Airstream. My plan is to travel to places I'd otherwise fly to and rent a car. This way I can take my dogs along and not have to take them to the kennel.
The coach is a mid-bath, rear twin layout. I will eventually want to expand the bathroom, make the bedroom a double bed, and create a place for the dogs to be secure and comfortable if I need to leave them alone.
My planned tow vehicle is a 1983 Suburban with a big block. Oddly enough, this truck towed an Airstream for the first 25 years of its life.
The coach has been off the road for a few years so I have all intentions of going through the bearings, getting new tires, giving it a good cleaning, etc. I have plenty of questions already but I'll wait to ask them until I actually have the trailer at my house and I'm ready to work.
For now I'll just surf around the site and see what all I can learn. I look forward to being amongst everyone and hopefully as I learn more about Airstreams I'll be able to contribute.

2002 F-250 7.3L diesel.. good, bad, ugly
My buddy in havlock nc, a retired marine, has a 2002 F-250 diesel 7.3L and was telling me he did not know anything about them before he got this one.
come to find out the 2000-03.25 7.3L model was some of the best diesel motors ford every put in Pickups..
i have heard/read horror stories about the 6.0L engine i think they made the switch to in second quarter of 2003 according to wiki.
SO i am now looking at this as a good TV and was looking for input on them. My friends is a 4 door version and he was saying it a bear to park and drive around in parking lots due to length.
any advise and comments especially on fuel mileage welcome.

Welding near my propane lines! How do we stay safe?
Hi all!
I'm have a welder coming tomorrow to do repairs to my external stairs, which are horribly bent!
To make sure the area near the door is safe I have removed the propane tanks from the trailer and turned on the stove to release any propane in the lines. I have also turned the hot water heater into the on position, as well as the furnace.
I don't believe there is anything I can do to for the refrigerator, but have I missed anything?
Thanks for any tips!

Trying to figure out how to get the water heater to run with propane. It's fine with electric.

Hi everyone. First time owner/camper. Picked up our International Onyx 27FB a couple of weeks ago and had a successful first trip to Mission Bay in San Diego on Easter weekend. Thanks to all for all the great info on the forums. We're learning fast and having fun!!
univolt system
We have a 66 Caravel and my question to you is that if you run your battery down, is there a point to where it affects the two circuit transformer in a fashion that will not allow the "city power" mode not to work?
Where is Jeff?
Sorry everyone, I have had an unusually large number of professional and family obligations over the past few months that have kept me away from the forums. It looks like things have gone pretty well without me though, thanks as always to Per, glynndub, and many others for answering questions here.
I'll try to be more responsive in coming months.
As a status update, I've been hitting my head against the 64-bit wall, which some of you may know requires a total rewrite of my UI for Mac since Apple made the really annoying decision to drop 64 bit compatibility with their older UI technology (Carbon). I've been trying to move everything to Cocoa but I do not like the language and it doesn't help me with 64 bit Windows.
So after years of avoiding it, I've decided to buy a commercial license for Juce.
www.juce.com
It's a very nice cross-platform library but it costs money. However thanks to a nice uptick in donations over the past year I have about enough to cover it.
It will take me some time to learn, but the end result should be a MUCH better UI with modern features (scrolling !).

Fridge door stripper
What do you all recommend for stripping clear coat off the exterior fridge compartment door? I need something that won't stain or leave any patina. The metal is so thin that I fear any rubbing or polishing will bend the fins.
Need help choosing new pump.
1992 25 Excella:
Im looking for a new water pump to replace the original Shurflo 2088-403-144. The old one is rated at 4 amps and 2.8 gpm. I found two new Shurflo Revolution 12v pumps online as listed below:
Name : SHURFLO® REVOLUTION Pump
Model Numbers OEM/Aftermarket : 4008-101-A65, 4008-101-E65
Voltage : 12 VDC
Flow Rate GPM/LPM : 3.0 GPM [11.4 LPM]
Amps (Max.) : 7.5
Shut-Off Pressure : 55 PSI [3.1 BAR]
Name : SHURFLO® REVOLUTION Pump
Model Numbers OEM/Aftermarket : 4028-101-A54, 4028-101-E54 Voltage: 12 VDC
Flow Rate GPM/LPM : 2.3 GPM [8.7 LPM]
Amps (Max.) : 5
Shut-Off Pressure : 50 PSI [3.4 BAR]
If I go with the top one, I get about the same gpm but it draws almost twice the amps.
If I go with the second one listed, I lose .5 gpm, and it still draws 25% more amps than the original.
Whats going on? Does anyone have any suggestions or explanations to help me understand? How many amps can I pull to run the water pump without causing short- or long-term problems? How many psi will the water lines in these trailers normally accept? Any specific pumps I should be looking at?
Thanks very much,
Doug

Ribs of 1949 Liner
Does anybody know what alloy and thickness was used for the ribs of the 1949 Liner? A couple of mine have some collision damage (from before I purchased it) and therefore require or replacement.
An Airstream brochure from 1949 says that they are of the "same work hardening aluminum allow as used in the latest jet planes," and other details in that brochure refer to the crossmembers as .051 24-ST aluminum and stringers as 24-ST aluminum. My understanding is that the 24-ST aluminum is the same (or almost the same) as what is today called 2024 T3 aluminum. But it doesn't actually describe the ribs directly. Are the ribs / roof bows also .032 or .051 2024 aluminum? (I suppose I could buy a decent set of calipers to measure thickness.)

Hitch parts-what goes on trailer, what on vehicle?
Hello Airstream Forum Members,
We are in the process of learning all about trailers, vehicles, and hitches.
Can someone help me understand what part of the hitch set-up goes on the trailer itself, and what is on the vehicle?
We currently have a 2004 Honda Pilot with a trailer hitch (draw tite) that we have used for a soft ride 4-bike bicycle rack. We have the trailer wire harness (got that when renting a U Haul trailer to take the kids to college.)
So I understand that the other parts of the set up would be the ball, which slides into the hitch on the vehicle. We would need to get the correct size ball for the trailer (we are planning on the 16 Bambi Sport).
So how does the anti-sway part work? Is that added onto the hitch side of the connection or does that go on the trailer itself?
What about trailer brakes? Are those activated by the wire harness? Do all the trailers come with these, or do the trailer breaks need to be added on?
Lastly, if you were to buy a new vehicle (we may need one before we save up enough for the Bambi), what towing features are best to order on the vehicle, and what are best to add aftermarket?
Thanks in advance for your replies!

Newbie in TX - Wants AS to be 90% biz, 10% fun
Hello AirForum!
I am a newbie looking to house my business in an AS. Or more accurately, create a mobile part of my business that can travel to locations across Texas or just park it in a town in Texas. The facts are this:
...so here are my newbie Qs!
So those are my starting questions! I welcome any and all feedback, and feel free to just say "See here: {LINK ON AIRFORUMS.COM}". I have tried to spend time persuing the boards before throwing it all out, but I'm sure there are threads I have missed that answer a good chunk of these Qs. :o
Thank you!
I am a newbie looking to house my business in an AS. Or more accurately, create a mobile part of my business that can travel to locations across Texas or just park it in a town in Texas. The facts are this:
- My business is graphic design so I will have several pieces of equipment (two printers and a guillotine cutter) and material that will increase the weight by approximately 500-600 lbs. (paper ain't feathers!).
- I entertain at most four customers at a time.
- The truck I have to tow with is 2013 EcoBoost 3.5V6 F150 Supercrew.
- Because of my clientele and business aesthetic, I want to have a very minimal interior, like you see with some AS hair salon businesses. I want clean, simple, well lit, lots of personal space. I will need a 5' table with four chairs; I want to make the couch area a work area; I want to keep the original bathroom layout; I want a kitchenette; and other than that, I just want to keep the space very open.
- I would like the AS to double duty 8-10 times per year on weekends for travel with my husband and two dogs, where we will meet up with other friends. There is a chance I need to sleep four people, not two.
- I have an idea for a floorplan and millwork that does double-duty, but before going on the "big" forums with those concepts and testing viablity, I'd love help to get started!
...so here are my newbie Qs!
- I am thinking that a late 60s Overlander 26-27' is the smallest I can feasibly go, mostly with regards to having more than two people feeling comfortable in the AS at a time. I think ideally, an early to mid 70s 31' Sovereign is really the sweet spot for me. With some very clever carpentry, I can have two couch areas that are "desks" when it's work time and "beds" when it's play time. A 31' AS also gives me room to have a 3-4' work closet where the printing equipment can hide during play time. Plus, that equipment is too heavy to move in an out like a table or chairs are.
- Q: Does the 26' - 31' range sound right for a 90% business / 10% fun AS?
- Q: Will my F150 tow a 31' that is mostly gutted, save for a kitchenette, bath and 500-600 lbs of equipment? Let's add another 500lbs. for furniture and cargo for good measure. Truck cargo will contain 300. lbs of humans, 160. lbs of dogs, 100lbs. food & miscellany, and maximum 198lbs. of gas (6.2lb x ~32 gallons). No camper, tonneau cover or lock box in the bed. We will likely always camp at a location with water and power.
- Q: If the F150 will tow the 31', what special considerations should I account for like anti-sway hitches or any special stablization thingamaboppers I have yet to learn about? Do I need different tires?
- Q: Am I better off trading up to a F250?
- When I put my printing equipment in the AS, it seems like I should not only place it over the wheel well/axle in the rear-ish, but also balance the weight by putting the fresh, grey and black water tanks on the opposite side.
- Q: Is this how you'd distribute weight, or what do I need to know before I really work on my floorplan?
- Q: Do tanks generally go above the frame, or nestled somewhere subfloor in the frame?
- Q: Generally speaking, what are my major weight distribution issues?
- Most 60s-70s ASs seems to either be refurbed and pretty or sitting in a yard on blocks. I feel capable figuring out how to tow/trailer it to my restorer of choice, but what major questions do I need to ask if I want to actually tow this puppy later on in life?
- Q: What precisely am I watching out for? Rust? Sag? Axle? Tires? Shocks? Brakes? What's the order of magnitude on these?
- Q: What are the right questions to ask when it comes to overall running gear compentency?
- Q: What should send me running the opposite direction from a potential purchase?
- I am a very handy person, so I feel confident working directly with a body shop, restorer, carpenter, sheet metal, electrician, glass tradesman, etc. This is not something I want to just deliver to a restorer with drawings and say "Bye! Call me when it's done!" As I understand it, my priorities should be:
- ** A secure and covered work area **
- 1. Running Gear
- 2. Exterior Lighting
- 3. Seals, Heat & AC
- 4. Frame, bumper and tongue
- 5. Flooring and route plumbing
- 6. Belly Pan
- 7. Interior Walls and route electrical, gas and remaining plumbing
- 8. Finishes, hardware and millwork
- 9. Upholstery
- 10. Polish and go!
- Q: Are there any electrical, gas or plumbing consideration to keep in mind if I really want to demo out the AS and just have minimal cabinetry/closet, apart from the "work closet"? I notice some ASs, when demo'ed out, have an pop-out type wall arch near the front that appears to be a hub of some sort. Is that what I see? Do I need to keep a closet or panel area for the water heater or other things I'm not thinking of, outside of what I do in the bathroom? Do I need a battery somewhere in the interior?
- Q: Where in the AS do I want to mount the thermostat, gauges, switches? What all do I need to monitor?
- Q: Why doesn't the Belly Pan get done as part of seals, before flooring?
- Q: Do I need to try and keep the same outputs and inputs or will moving those for the electrical or tanks create a major headache down the road? I've never actually RV'd before, so here I have no idea!

Hello,
I have just acquired a 1974 24 foot Argosy trailer. In order to get it home I would like to get prepared. Does anyone know what the wheel size is on one of these. How many lug nuts. I will have to get a spare tire ready for the travel home. The trailer wheels are not accessible right now and the seller is unsure.

Vent, used
Title: Add New - Airstream Trailer Classifieds - Airstream Trailers For Sale
I just posted a new ad on Airstream Classifieds.
The vent is used but works. Removed it from a 1992 25ft Airstream Excella trailer in order to install Fantastic Vents. Only have one because we sold our trailer and bought a newer model before I finished removing both old vents and installing two new vents. Yes, I did procrastinate a bit! New owner was happy to finish the job as he got two new Fantastic Vents.
We have placed a $20 price on this vent plus shipping.
If you live close by and can pick it up then we can negotiate the price a bit.

Water pump leaking - repair or buy new?
1992 25' Excella: I just pulled the water pump because it leaks from between the metal motor housing and the plastic impeller housing. It's the original pump, made in 1991:
SHURflo Model 2088-403-144
4 amps
2.8 GPM
Are these pumps worth repairing? If not, what's the best pump to buy these days? I want a long-lasting quiet pump. It would be nice to have the water lines hook up in the same spots so I don't have to change those around. How much PSI can a 1992 Airstream take without any issues??
Thanks for any input you can give,
Doug

quick question
Hi folks
We're considering getting a memory foam mattress for our 27' classic. Someone mentioned a company named Artistic. Anyone familiar with them? I can't find a website. Of course, any suggestions of other companies that you've dealt with would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Parquet?
OK, I might be in a bit of a bind. The PO put down oak parquet flooring long before I got the trailer and they installed it around the existing sink cabinet. Since I am in the process of replacing the cabinet with my own custom version, I have "holes" in the flooring that I need to fill. To make matters worse, they glued down the old stuff, so pulling it all up and putting down something else really isn't an option since it would be a ton of work and would probably tear up the subfloor.
I started looking around and it seems that these 6x6" tiles are no longer made. Lumber liquidators, the big box stores and online did not lead to anything. So I'm keeping my fingers crossed somebody has a few (3 or 4) of the 6" square tiles kicking around from a home improvement job. I'd be happy to pay the shipping and whatever you're asking price is as long as its reasonable. The flooring is a light colored oak, probably about 1/4 to 3/8 inches thick. Thanks in advance.

Lighting Stove?
Although I figured out the oven with no problem, I can't figure out the stove top. The igniter knob seems broken, but even when I turn the main burner knob to start the gas and use a match I get nothing.
Airstates: Better Brag Board
Title: Add New - Airstream Trailer Classifieds - Airstream Trailers For Sale
I just posted a new ad on Airstream Classifieds.
What is Airstates?Last year I met a fellow RV'er at Starved Rock State Park Campground in Illinois. He proudly showed me his "brag board"-- a United States sticker map that traced where they've been so far in their travels. Each state he’d been to had a gem of a story.
I wanted a brag board too, but I wanted a design that would fit the style of our 19' Airstream Flying Cloud. Unfortunately, there aren’t any out there like that.
That's why I made the Airstates United States Checklist. It matches perfectly with your Airstream trailer—almost looking like it came that way straight from the factory.
Aluminum made (in the USA)The Airstates Checklist is made from laser-engraved 0.025 inch thick aluminum. 4 pre-drilled holes for securing with 1/8" diameter rivets, soft rounded corners for a classic look. Use a Sharpie marker to tick off a state after you've visited. Made in the USA.
Thanks for taking the time to learn about this product I've made. If you have any questions please email Jamie (that's me) at airstates@gmail.com.

Tom Tom RV model
Does anybody know anything about the Tom Tom RV model GPS? Anybody have one? Been using Tom Tom for a number of years and would like to keep the same operating system. But am getting tired of being routed through residential areas and over forest service roads or worse. So I am looking for a RV gps.
Installing second roof A-C
I have a 2009 25' Classic, 30A service, with one 13,500BTU A-C, looking into installing a second 13,500BTU A-C. Anyone done this? What are the pitt falls? Is it worth the cost? Or just change the 13,500 to a 15,000.
Do you get steer axle reload?
With my current rig ('05 Suburban 2500, '08 Classic 30 S/O), using an Equal-I-Zer 1200, I wasn't able to get back to unhitched weight on the steer axle (don't have the certs handy, but IIRC it was something like 200-300lbs under)
I switched to a Hensley Arrow 1400, and under the maximum setting, I could get back to baseline (with the trailer loaded smartly).
With about 6 years on the HAHA, I've now noticed the max setting only gets me to about 200lbs under baseline steer axle weight.
Which leads me to my poll question...

2014 Interstate Lounge roof LEAK!!!
This last winter we got a 2014 lounge interstate, so far over 3000+ miles multistate travels, very comfortably. We are having a very wet spring and found a good amount of water coming thru the cabin switches (just behind the curbside passenger seat). Got the ladder and look at the roof, found a pool of water collecting between the vents (i think) for the black and gray water tanks, and the awning. Just wondering if somebody has gotten this problem, and if so how was it fix. I plan to take it to the dealer this coming weekend, and i can think a few ways it can be fix, but wnated to hear from others experiences?
thanks
thanks
Could someone please direct me?
Hi everyone,
At one point I found a link to a group of individuals who offer to look at Airstreams for others (like me) when they spot one. I received great and very nice advice the last time I found a trailer--didn't end up buying it. I've found another one I'm really interested in, in Tennessee, (I live in norhern WI) but now I can't find where on this website I found that very nice group of people who offer their help by geographic region. If someone could direct me, I would very much appreciate the assist.
Thank you.
Best,
Rena

Food Network Show Looking for Airstream
Hey there,
(I felt that this was relevant here because it's focused on cooking inside of an Airstream.)
My name's Chris, and I work for a company that produces Food Network and Cooking Channel shows. We're putting together a new program this summer that'll have a celebrity host touring the nation to cook with viewers in and outside their homes. A big part of the show is a classic road trip feel, something our producers are really looking to highlight by having our host tow a customized Airstream trailer that he can cook in when we shoot outside of people's homes.
I was wondering if you guys, who presumably have a great following, knew of anywhere in the NEW YORK/TRI-STATE area where we could rent customized Airstreams with nice, masculine interior, a kitchen, and ideally an openable side? I've done a fair share of research, but most rental end up being stock Airstreams, and we're looking for something with some flair. I've been trying to reach out to different parts of the Airstream community to see if there are any known dealers or sub-sects that might flourish with customized trailers and might be willing to rent to us for a brief (4 day) period in late May/June.
If there's anything you could tell me, or if there's any fans or groups you may know off hand I could be referred to, I'd very much appreciate it. And I can send you some images of what we're looking for in an email proper. Thanks for whatever anyone may know! :D

another Bargman L100 question
Hello all.
I am trying to get the lock cylinder out of my bargman l100, to see if I can remove the slop. I know that there must be a pin that holds it in. I have tried the diffrent spots rotating it with the key, and useing a shim from the front to see if I can find the pin and release it. What am I missing?

To patch or not to patch...
73 31' Excella here with about 6 holes rotted through the floor... all on the outside edge under windows... sorprisingly the bathroom stayed dry and looks good.
The question is - do I patch these spots or lift the frame and do the whole floor? I have read quite a few of the forums about the goods and bads of each... just soliciting advice.
The trailer is gutted now, total remodel - not restoration. Doing a composting toilet, solar elec, outdoor shower, inline water heater etc.
Thanks for any advice!

1966 Airstream Overlander. This camper has been gutted, the floor in front of the rear hatch door needs to be repaired (Approx an 2' X 3' Piece. There is some rotted wood around the door frame and one other place that I can recall. My husband started the project and just stopped when separation was filed. He has removed everything from the camper but we have all the parts. A replacement A/C unit was purchased but I don't know if it was a new one, it may have been used but if so not for long it's stored inside the camper and is very clean. The outside of the camper has been polished. David Felver of Felver Design Studio, of Beaufort SC polished the camper ($4,000). Wiring will have to be replaced as he was in the process of doing this. It is pretty much a total redo, we have all the interior which is in fairly good condition. The original plan was to modernize the interior of this camper. Call if interested and I will get some pictures for you.

Losing Fresh Water while driving
Hi folks,
I searched the forums and didn't see this addressed anywhere so here is the situation:
I can fill my fresh water tank and have the trailer sit for a couple of months and not lose a drop of water.
When I fill it and drive for an hour or so I will lose approx. 3/8 of a tank (15 gal). Yes I'm sure it's full and yes the cap is on tight.
I did notice the other day that the fitting (through which you fill the tank) was loose. I popped it back in and gave it an 1/8 to 1/4 turn (which is all you can do. I don't know if that has anything at all to do with the water loss because I have no idea what's behind the fitting.
Has anyone else experienced this and what was the solution? Thanks in advance.

How much for your awning??
Yikes
Just got a quote for a 10ft zip dee awning... Approx 1600 before shipping , add At least another 500 for that plus duty at the border for canada.
You guys who bought a&e, are the prices a lot cheaper? I understand zip dee may be the cats ass, but I can't spend over 2 thousand dollars on an awning. Price seems quite out
Of wack....maybe I'm wrong? And yes, the quote is directly from zip dee. It was 850 for the awning, and another 600 for the hardware...

Condensation
I have just purchased a '71 Globetrotter and it's totally stripped. Lots of rot, no plumbing or wiring. I've stripped some of the interior out and found wet insulation, or evidence of wetness. I was in the A/S working when it was raining and watched as condensation formed and ran down the interior walls. I have read most of the discussions of types of insulation and will probably go with fiberglass. The original insulation was glued to the exterior shell and left no room for "dead airspace". Should I worry about the condensation and if so what can I do about it?
looking at '72 Excella 500
We have '69 International Overlander with double beds in decent shape having new Allure tile flooring,2 fantastic fans and D/C wiring done now . But considering purchase of '72 Excella 500 in good shape needs some minor stuff done. Want because of center bath and twin beds in rear. But I can't find a '72 listed on Airstream sight with specifications. First Excella I see listed is '73. anyone have notions on this?

Thought I create a new thread for this topic.
In my opinion, Toyota reliability + Cummins Diesel would make for a great pickup -- Only if they increase the payload a bit more.
Also, Toyota is the only manufacturer that has implemented SAE standards for tow ratings.

Reasons for 16" Wheels
Hi everyone. I recently acquired my first AS, a 1988 29' Excella and am in the process of making it fully functional, road worthy, and comfortable; Not necessarily a restoration but putting my kind of TLC into the unit. So, for the running gear I put on new trailer rated radial tires to get it home (seller thought the old ones were about 10 years old). Made it home safely and the trailer pulled well and did not notice any issues with the wheels and tires. My research on this forum for several issues has led me to the question of why should I upgrade my wheel size from the factory 15's to 16's. Would this improve my GVWR (now 6800#)? Is there any data that says I am reducing the rolling resistance on the AS and therefore will get better mpg on my TV (2012 F150 EB with 20" shoes)?
Is it going to improve the ride for the non-occupants of the trailer? Do 16" wheels look substantially better than the 15s? Why not put on some classy aluminum wheels and reduce the weight and mass over the stock steel wheels?
As a new guy to this forum, I have already learned a lot about these wonderful RVs and I look forward to learning more about what you think considering these wheel questions. Thanks in advance for all of your inputs!!:D

Information re: 1967 Tradewinde Canadian Centennial Edition
I wonder if anyone can help me with background regarding a 1967 Tradewind 24' I just purchased. It is in good condition, purchased from the second owner since new. it has been parked for 20 years and other than clutter inside is in good condition throughout.
Now the mystery... it has extra factory badges that say "Canada" with the Canadian Flag midship at the belt line and a "Canadian Centennial 1867-1967" Emblem with a stylized maple leaf to the right of the door. These are for sure original equipment and some kind of special edition trailer for the Canadian market in 1967. I cannot find any information on such a model and wonder if anyone has any insights.
Thanks for any help you can provide.
Michael

Thermostat changeover?
Has anyone changed the original equipment thermostat for the furnace to a more modern and convenient one? Every time that I push the on-off lever I fear that I'll cause breakage because it is so stiff. It sure would be nice to have a temperature readout. All help appreciated.

repair my oven 76 4-burner magic chef
lundi 28 avril 2014
Hello
I'm bringing up my trailer for use and it's being checked out at the rv center
I was informed that the oven sadly isn't igniting. The pilot works and when the oven is turned on, it gets stronger but the oven doesn't light
I'm guessing that the safety valve may need replacing I will verify this when I get the trailer back from the tv center.
Is there a supply where I can get a replacement part here?

How much I should pay for a 2012 16ft sports old stock that used as display?
Hi everyone.
I have been shopping for a 16 ft bambi around. Best price dealer give me is $36.2k plus several hundred document/plate fees for a new 2014 model(no sales tax in Oregon). Just got a call from dealer said they are getting a 2012 display trailer from their partner(I don't remember the name of that party who had it for 2 years). It has never been titled, dealer is firmly asking for 31.5k(plus several hundred document and plate cost), the salesman said the trailer is not ready yet and will take them another 5 days to get it to transfer to their lot if I pay $2k deposit immediately. The deposit is refundable if I don't buy. This dealer is only 6 miles from my house.
The salesman who have been helping us is a nice person, he repeated it is a very rare deal and will sell fast. I did pay the refundable deposit. He said since it was never been titled, there is a 2 year warranty like purchased new. I checked nada trailer value, the msrp for the new 2012 model is about $38k, used price from $22k-$27k.
Before dealer called me, I was about to buy a 2013 16ft sports from a private seller who claims only used 400 miles for $31k, the price includes a $500 equalizer and the 2 installed aluminum shield at front. It will cost a couple of hundred dollar inspection fee and additional $250 at the dealer to transfer the remaining one year warranty to me. The nada used value for this 2013 is $27k-$33k. The seller is 7 hours one way driving from me.
It is very hard for me to make decision now. Any advise will be very helpful.
Ps what's the difference between 2012,2013 and 2014?

Corrosion Question
We just purchased a new 2014 International, upon arriving home (obviously too excited at the dealership to really check it out), we noticed that the frame, particularly the stabilizer jacks and some of the wire connections that attach to the exterior frame were pretty corroded; looks like they came off a unit ten years old or more. Is this normal?
Secondary question and totally unrelated. I work on computers virtually all day, but don't in any way count my self as a computer wiz. I'm new to these forums, but does anyone else find this less than intuitive? I would like to get involved in some up-to-date discussion, however found some information very old and outdated. How does one search for new and interesting information...
Thanks,
Moondoggie...

1974 Argosy Motorhome on CL - Hunka junk or interesting project?
I can do some interior work myself, but I don't know a thing about plumbing and mechanical stuff. What do you think about this lil guy? I like this model, but I'm scared it might be a rotting rust bucket. I haven't seen it in person yet, but I emailed the seller to arrange it.
It seems like there is less info out there about motorized models than trailers.

Doorbell power draw
Just out of curiosity does anyone know roughly how much power a lighted doorbell button uses? My late 70s Excella 500 came with a doorbell and while totally not necessary, I fixed it anyway just for the kitsch factor. The doorbell push button I bought has a light in it that stays illuminated 24/7. Not a problem unless I'm boon docking and since I know nothing about electricity, I'm asking this silly question? I'm hoping the answer is that it draws such little power it would take a month to drain the batteries.
AHHH, almost lost our awning today!
Traveling towards Vintage Trailer Academy, crossing Kansas in VERY high winds! We barely got into Colorado on US 70, and all of a sudden Chris is saying pull off, awning is coming unrolled! I quickly pulled over, and, sure enough, awning was coming out from under the metal cover. We have never had a problem before, everything was tightened down properly, but the wind was horrendous coming from NW, as we were traveling west. It must have been 'just right' to catch the awning.
In trying to unroll slightly and trying to roll it back up, the wind caught it and almost put the whole awning over the trailer. We grabbed the arms and held it down until we had a slight lull in the wind and managed to get it rolled back up. We were NOT going to lose our awning!
We got back on the road, but were off again in a few miles because it started happening again. We caught it earlier this time, and kept it all in place. Chris tied the dogs tie out cord around it and fastened it to the grab handle by the door, tightened it down so the awning couldn't unroll again, and we got off the highway as soon as we could heading straight south for a tail wind.
We're now in La Junta for the night. We unrolled the awning to check it and nothing looks damaged. WHEW!

Find where a tire is made
How to find where tires are made:
Look on the tire. Look at the molded in DOT code. The first two letters/numbers after DOT are the country of origin and the plant which made them.
Go to All the D.O.T. Tire Plant Codes to find the information based on the code you found.
This was published in Trailer Life recently. Thought you might like a record of it here on the Forum.

Heater works but I do not believe it is original. Nutone works and all parts are accounted for EXCEPT the blender lid. There is a knife sharpener, blender, mixer, & can opener. They are covered in dust but would clean up nicely. Two pull out couches. Cupboards with drawers most are in great working order. All bathroom parts are available. Toilet, tub with shower head, shower door, sink, laundry hamper door (hamper is shot but if you wanted it to use the original snaps I can include it), trim, cupboards, mirror, light etc. Located in Boring Oregon.

Looking for best way to spot clean mouse fur
This week I removed my dinnette table to have a table crack repaired and noticed the aluminum brackets for the table have left aluminum dust around the area where the brackets are mounted. So now I have some spots to try to get clean and get white again.
I'll vac these areas well to get most of the aluminum dust out of the white covering but it looks like I may also need a cleaner as well.
I'll want to use something that won't yellow and get the mouse fur clean in these spots and not loosen the glue holding the material to the wall while lifting the remaining dust to the surface.
I'm thinking about the auto type carpet cleaner that sprays on and dries to a powder and can be vacuumed up. What do you think?
Any suggestions?

Tongue jack is 'stunted'
H&H Super PowerJack
Extends maybe 6-8", then stops.
Pulled the head, and reset per user manual; after that, it works fine.
Going thru the reset process for the third time, over the last few months of use (it's a 2008 model).
Is this an indicator the jack's about to give up the ghost?
Anybody else run into this?

Figure out up and down vent
The vents above us here in this 70 Model has me perplexed. A while back some thing slipped on one of the turn cranks (at the top) - a little plastic washer is supposed to fit and stay in place in the hole at the top, but keeps falling out even if I hold the plastic ring in place...is there some thing up there that is supposed to hold everything together? Thanks, I will be watching my email for a response!

Inflatable Kayak
I am in the market for an inflatable Kayak. Sort of impressed by the Advanced Elements Advanced Frame Kayaks. The AE1012-R seems to be what I might be looking for. Does anyone have any experienced based opinions on these kayaks? They seem to have very good reviews around the net. MY Ocean Kayak Tetra 12 has just become to heavy and hard for me to carry around. The back and shoulder are just no longer up to it. I sold it today after it only being listed on Craigslist for less than an hour. Recommendations for other simular kayaks in the same price range and size would also be appreciated.
chipped plywood - repair before Allure
I spent hours, HOURS, trying to remove the wood flooring from the kitchen area in my Airstream (maybe a 3'x4' area). The flooring was set in adhesive by the PO and necessitated my scoring/cutting it into small 3"x3" squares with my circular saw and then using the rotary tool to lift them off the plywood subfloor. There are a few areas where the plywood gave way before the plank flooring so I have places where the plywood is splintered through the top layer (or so).
I'll guestimate that there are 2 areas, 1'x1' of this splintered subfloor (which is pristine other than this damage) and was intending to use a wood filler/patch before laying Allure self-stick vinyl planks. But maybe I need to use a self-leveling material instead.
Read a few posts here and am now a little worried about the filler (or whatever) cracking or debonding. Any suggestions?
Every project I started this weekend turned into a flipping headache...

Question for Ford Excursion owners
I'm looking to purchase an '07 or '08 Excursion for pulling a 27FB. Did Ford have a factory towing package for those years or was it maybe even standard for the Excursion? If not, have you added anything for your own purposes (e.g. transmission oil cooler, integrated brake controllers, etc.)?
Just curious what I should be shopping for before I get in too deep. Thanks for your insight!

We just listed our 1965 Airstream Safari for Sale on Airstream Classifieds.
Year: 1965 Make: Airstream Model: Safari Length: 22'
Hi this is a 1965 Airstream Safari 22' international. This unit has a great exterior with hardly any flaws in the skin. The windows are all there but one that has been replaced with plexi. The interior is all present with all the original cabinetry in place, I believe the wood cabinets are walnut, the gaucho and front dining area are there with the exception of the table. The floor is all solid besides just a couple spots that will need to be addressed. I have not tested any of the systems. The tires and bearings are In good condition. I have a clear mi title for it also. Please contact me with any questions you may have thank you.
