2008 Bambi "U"/"C" Channel!

I am replacing the floor in my 2008 Bambi. I have the shell off and damaged floor off and ready to install the new plywood flooring. My question is I see some older A/S do not have the C channel that fits into the floor. I had to drill the floor line rivets because of this C channel, so I am thinking of cutting the lip off the under side. It seems much easier to install the "U" channel back on the body then set the shell down on the floor verses trying to set it down while trying to keep the skin on the outside of the "U" channel. Any thoughts?
