1970 Streamline belly pan question

mercredi 22 octobre 2014

I'm trying to open up the bottom of my Empress to inspect/repair the black tank. I am at the point where I have to release the quarter round panels at the edge that go up behind the gold anodized trim that is at floor level. I am trying to determine if I need to drill out the rivets in the trim, or if the pan parts are held up by other rivets that are concealed by the trim. I guess I'll have to release the trim regardless to get at any other rivets, but any input is appreciated.

I'm also a little confused about how to deal with the places where two belly panels meet with a corrugated edge. It looks like they are riveted together through flanges that stick up at 90 degrees to the plane of the belly panels. I can't see any clean way to release them.

TIA for any suggestions.
