I want to gut an airstream from circa 1967. My goal is to install insulatin and replace the panelling so it can be used as a spare bedroom for use in central Oregon. I want to maximize the interior space, so I'll be removing, but not replacing cabinetts and interior furniture. I plan to remove but not replace the shower and toilet. I'd like to keep a sink for teeth brushing.
I recently bought it "as is" and am not familiar with airstreams in general. I have basis construction skills.
I understand I need to remove rivets and if I reuse the panelling, replace the rivets. I'll also be removing the floor and subfloor.
Please let me know what tools I need to start the gutting process. Also which vendors are best for a novice.
I believe there at least two ways to remove rivets, by drilling and some self centering device. I would like to be quick. I don't have an unlimited budget, but am willing to buy time saving tools.
I don't want to make mistakes removing items in a way that prevents me from returning them to the airstream.
Would photos or the exact modle help?
