Both of my Fantastic Vents (ca. 2002) have a professional-looking aluminum "fence" about 1" tall around them on three sides, just stuck to the vent flange with 5200 except for a angled tab on the rear that is stuck to the roof. Oddly enough the open side faces front. The fences are mounted with about 1/16 - 1/8 clearance above the vent flange, so I guess water from a normal rainfall would run under, but at 55 mph in a rainstorm, I don't think so.
I am removing at least one of the vents to re-seal it because it has been leaking for some time. Are these "fences" something that is normally done? I don't see them on the fantastic vent web site. I'm also putting fantastic vent covers over the vents so I can leave them open without worrying about rain getting in. I'd think that the cover will keep rain off of the vent well enough that the fences are superfluous.
