Baggage compartment piano hinge

I have a 1956 Flying Cloud. I have disassembled and am cleaning the baggage compartment door assembly. The piano hinge is badly corroded, and my question is how aggressively I can try to remove the corrosion. Is the hinge made of alclad meaning that I must be careful not to remove the external layer of aluminum?



Any other advice as to how to clean up the corrosion?
