What the best-dressed AS shoppers wear

samedi 1 novembre 2014

Finally, finally after Bambi got badly thumpered in late August, our insurance adjustor decided to come through for us after all, and we get to go shopping for a new one.

Not wanting to appear inappropriately attired for this important event, I thought to seek your advice. My thoughts:

1. Wear something metallic.

2. Wear something light gray and sort-of shiny.

3. Dress upscale for one's preferred camping experience.

(such as: resort wear for the snowbirds, active-lifestyle spandex gear and helmets for the mountain bikers, woodsy woolens plus binocular accessories for the heritage camping set, desert khakis and pocket GPSs for the Colorado Plateau crowd, nautical wear for the Land Yacht concept,.....)

4. Wear your old clothes. With the money you'll be spending on an Airstream (and for us, a new truck, too,) you won't be able to afford new clothes for a long time to come. Spare the wear on your current good ones.

Newbie to forum from Illinois

I dragged home a 1973 Argosy 22 today. I have had a couple of popups and a couple of travel trailers over the years. Sold my 78 Shasta Daisy in March of 13 and have been camperless since then. I have been kinda looking for something for about a year now. Driving home from work a few days ago, there it was with a for Sale sign in the window. I could walk home from the guy selling it. Had never seen it there in the past. Clean Title, all the paperwork, owners manual etc.. No craigslist/Ebay scammers, there it is. Look at it and take it or leave it. After an hour inspection and finding nothing shocking at this point, I agreed to a very reasonable price and she is home. All appears to be as it left the factory. Complete with the gold shag carpet. No mouse Smell, decent cushions. One small spot in the floor by the door on the hinge side. All lights work except for a few marker lights, Electric brakes work, Tires are old and the factory axles appear to be frozen as to be expected. Will have to take a look at what dexter has to offer. I photographed the tag on the axle already. All glass is good, Lower paint has been repainted but the top appears to be from the factory. the Vin Plate has a small tape line, Did not check the water system or A/C Need to leave some suprises for the spring. Should make a decent camper for the short trips i take to the local fishing club and old Car and steam shows. The Gold carpet just had to go so I started molesting it today and removed it Wanted to get a better look at the floor anyway. No bad rot that I have seen. Will save for a pattern for the new sheet flooring. Carpet and camping do not mix to me anyway. Wish me luck as I start the insane journey of cleaning it up and making it fit to use again. Thanks for having me in your group. I am from the peoples republic of Illinois where all our governors spend 3 terms. 2 in office and one in Jail. :) Happy campin everyone. Bill

furnace install

So I'm finally installing my Furnace - Suburban w/ the Stainless Steel Cover/Cap/Trim that goes on the exterior (for the combustion air intake and the combusted air exhaust). Because of the sloping exterior wall, especially down near the floor, the furnace has to be set at an angle so the outside trim/cap will slide in tight against the skin.

I didn't find anything in the literature saying the furnace must be level to operate but I wanted to find out if anyone knows for sure. And are your floor mounted furnaces installed level? Or are they angled?

Thanks.

Also, the literature points at the top "lip" of the exterior trim piece and says, "provide sealant" . . . I'm assuming this trim piece will get fairly hot - can I use Trempro/Vulcom Or do I have to find something designed for "heat"?

Thanks.

Interior end caps

Hi there all!

With all of you that have restored your Airstreams, how do you get the interior end caps out? Do they come out in one piece? Do they need to be cut up to get them out? I do not want mine as I have other plans for the ends and was wondering if there is anyone who wants them? I could use some help and some advice here. Thank you in advance!
