Repace TV Tires? New 2015 Classic on order!

mardi 3 février 2015

Hello everyone,

As an introduction, I’ve been on the forums since I got my 2004 Classic 25’ in 2011. Though I haven’t posted much, the generous people on this forum have saved my bacon numerous times. I’ve been a supporting member since I figured out how to sign up! I dreamed of owning an Airstream since I was a kid, and it has in no way disappointed me. A few glitches here and there, but it’s part of the journey to me. A dream come true. And I’ve met terrific people. A 2004 F-250 came with the Airstream, along with a Reese WD hitch. I was a first time tow-er and have been impressed with the ease of AS towing especially when compared to my fears about it! Backing up is still challenging, but I’m improving.

Here’s what’s going on with me: I have a 2015 Classic on order. :D I’m thrilled beyond words and apprehensive too. I have questions for any who are willing to share their opinion.

Should I replace my GY Marathon TV tires before I go pick up the new (as yet unnamed) glamper? Would that help with setting up the hitch, etc? They had only 20,000 miles when I got the vehicle, and less than 50,000 now. Lots of tread left. No visible problems or cracks, but I’ve read enough here to worry. I’m still working, and my trips are less than 1500 miles total. No off road to speak of. I’m short, and the truck is high enough as is, so I’m not particularly interested in increasing TV wheel size.

When I do get new tires, though, what to get? The 2015 Classic comes with Michelin 225/75R x 16 E tires. These seem great. What would be the best truck tire for my 2004 F-250, assuming those trailer tires? Michelin LTX M/S2s? LTX A/T2s? Pros and cons? Any other suggested matches?

Any other comments, information, data, advice, warnings, suggestions or salutations would be appreciated, whether about the tire choice or the 2015 Classic.

Lots to think about and dream on, till I make the trade and pick up my new trailer in late April.

Thanks for listening :lucky:, and helping me think/dream about this!
