Title: 1967 Airstream Safari 22 - North Carolina

I just posted a new ad on Airstream Classifieds.

Six years ago, with a grad student's stipend and the best of intentions, we bought this trailer from a dude in the woods. The plan was to fix it up for a writing cabin, and my dad and I gutted it and started working - painting, redoing the floor. We pulled out all the original wiring, which didn't look safe, planning to put new wiring in. With a futon, a table, and a heavy-duty extension cord run from the house, it gave me a place to write essays and my dissertation.

Then, kids came along, money ran short, and we moved to a home where we couldn't store it and work on it. Plan interrupted. For the last three years it's been sitting lonely on my parent's land in Four Oaks, NC, waiting for us to come back and finish the job. And, frankly, it doesn't look like we'll ever get to.

If you've got a vision for restoring or renovating a vintage Airstream, you've got a lot to work with here. Some of the original cabinets (use as template), stove, and sink are still here, they're just disassembled, and the bathroom is in good shape. The outer shell is intact and waiting for polishing.

There's a lot of work to be done, though - just being honest. The floor has water damage and probably needs to be replaced. When we bought it, several windows had been replaced with plexiglass, and they're not exactly water-tight. The vents are leaky and the non-aluminum components are beginning to rust.

It's not in vacationing shape, but it made it from Athens, GA to Four Oaks, NC with two new tires and no trouble. It's just the right size to pull with a full-size van or truck. Or, put it on blocks and build a deck around it for a guest cottage or office.

So, it's not ready to move in, but beauties like this don't come along very often. This 1967 Safari has all the original sales paperwork and owner's manual, along with receipts from sales. You can trace it from Lewisburg, PA to Athens, GA, to us.
