In hindsight...... We're only 2 months behind schedule.
Just a little over two years ago, my wife and I sat down for a "heart to heart" so to speak, about our future. We had just seen our youngest out of the house and off to college and both feeling like we had fulfilled our "parent-ly duties"
Having spent the last 20 years working hard to provide for the boys left us feeling it was finally time for some "us-time" !
We sat down and came up with a dream. Not your ordinary, lets win the lottery and sail the world dream, (we are semi-realistic and understand we STILL have another decade to be in the work place) lets call it our "us-time Dream"
Here we were, the 2 of us..... 3000+ sq. ft. of living space, 1000+sq.ft. of garage/shop, on acreage in the country..... and we weren't happy.
We sat at that table and made our "2 year plan".
We wanted an Airstream! No Wait.... We want to live in an Airstream! Yeah, it'll be cool, we'll have a big truck to haul it with. We'll sell the house, sell all our stuff, relocate somewhere warm. Downgrade our expenses and upgrade our lifestyle!
It was a dream. That was 2 years and 3 months ago. That "dream" paperwork was posted prominently on the kitchen door, where it served as a checklist to our future.
#1 Buy an Airstream. This, luckily enough, only took a month!
#2 Sell the house. This one took almost a year, but on July 2nd, 2013 we said goodbye to the home we built as a family. It was a bit sad but, we had a dream!
#3 Relocate to Tucson. Well, the transfer date just came in! As of October 25th, Wichita Coca-Cola will be in the rear view mirror and Tucson Coca-Cola will be in the windshield! My wife works for a Kroger based company and they also are going to accommodate her with work in the Tucson area as well.
We feel comfortable with this move. We've been full time in the AS for over a year now and LOVE it.
My father lives in Tucson (as did I 20+ years ago) and we typically visit there once a year or more. We love it and are super excited to be moving there!
I've spent the last year preparing the Airstream for the move....
This last summer I re-did the entire drivetrain, Bearings, races, brakes and tires.

Gave the Hensley hitch a complete tear down and rebuild.

Traded the old Suburban for a new BEAST!
Bought new chains and a set of Rock Tamers for the trip also! So now the clock is really ticking! 2 weeks and 2 days till we hit the road.
