1971 Airstream Tradewind 25 - New Hampshire
Title: 1971 Airstream Tradewind 25 - New Hampshire
We just listed our 1971 Airstream Tradewind for Sale on Airstream Classifieds.
Year: 1971 Make: Airstream Model: Tradewind Length: 25'
I have a vintage 1971 Airstream Land Yacht for sale. The camper has been in my family since 1977. It has been used almost every year since 1977. Over the years, the camper has had new parts installed as needed. Some of the parts include tires, crank, upholstery , curtains, flooring, carpet, toilet, plumbing, and hot water heater. The camper is in fair to good condition, and can be used right away, or you can make it a restoration project if you please. Features include hot water, bathroom with shower, black water holding tank, clean/drinking water supply tank, two modern day propane tanks that feed hot water, indoor stove and oven, furnace and refrigerator (electric and gas). Camper has battery for no-hook-up situations, and an on-board battery charger. Sleeps 4, and has a fold up table. Imperfections include dents in the back exterior shell, interior slider draws need work, small leak in the toilet (I'm working to fix that issue), and power to a section of interior lights. We bought a new vintage awning that is very pretty and goes with the camper. The hitch system also goes with the camper, including weight distribution system and sway bar. Exterior lighting and trailer breaking systems work-when last checked (6/29/2014). The camper tows like a dream. $6,000 or best offer takes it. Email me with any questions. I check email once per day, so please give me about 12-24 hours to respond. Thanks for looking!

New floor for a 2001 Excella 34WB
We just moved into our new-to-us Airstream in preparation for a nice long trip, and it immediately became obvious the carpet has to go. It's everywhere, even it the galley. We want to go with a wood laminate in the galley and a low small gauge berber in the living room and bedroom.
We aren't do it yourselfers so we'll be providing guidance to installers that are good at carpets and floors but in homes, not Airstreams.
I know there's a tin of things we need to know and take into account. Also know many here have traveled this road before and I hope you'll share so we don't have to reinvent the wheel.
Do we have to take up the floor mount cabinets to accomplish this task?
Is there a suggested method for assessing the health of our plumbing in the floors before we go to the expense of new floor coverings?
Lastly, is a top quality wood laminate recommend for the bathroom?
Thank you in advance, all who have wisdom to share.

I need all the info I can get on building a bathroom from scratch. The bathroom area is very condensed, super small. It's gutted and I'm not even sure where to put everything back and what parts I need to do so. I'm guessing Ill need a tub unit, sink unit and toilet and then wrap a fiberglass or stainless shell around the tub. OR would it be better to tile the whole room and make a wet bath. I'm guessing id have to a custom shower pan made in the shape of the floor footprint.
I'd appreciate any safari bath pics you have and any links to suppliers you've used.

Hi I have just purchased a 1976 28 foot Argosy in great shape. I have a 2003 Odyssey. Some time ago I purchased a hensly hitch (Pup) when they were on sale. Does anyone know if this combination might work or give some advice?

Broke 3 prong electrical cable connector in bumper storage compartment
I have a '78 Argosy Minuet 6.7 and broke the 3 prong electrical cable connector (prongs got bent and one broke off). It is in the service shop right now.
Should I be concerned with what type of connector is used to replace this.
The manual states that the camper is 120 volt 30 amp. What should I instruct the service company to replace it with? Do I need to order the part from somewhere? Could the service company damage the electrical if they replace it with the incorrect connector?
Please help...thanks in advance,
Bill

'69 Overlander Full Floor Replacement
Hi Everyone,
I've just purchased my first Airstream. Its a project to say the least but one that I'm certainly excited to tackle. I've brought it home and cleaned it up but want to do things right as we plan on keeping it for as long as possible.
First step is to take over where the previous owner left off and redo the floor. I'm working through all the posts and am also hoping for some insight (or warnings) from your experiences as I paint the frame and replace all of the floor. I read the posts about using gantries and should have listened. Lets just say I went through a little "separation anxiety"...at least everything is still wrinkle free.
Here's a few pictures so far.

Just finished a great Airstream Full-timing Summer Read
A friend of mine pointed out this book, knowing our interest in living full time in our Airstream. Such a great book. I just finished it and couldn't wait to share it with the forum. It's about a couple who loses their house and goes full time in a 27' Airstream. The author captures the lifestyle well and the story is a lot of fun.
If anyone else reads it let me know if you agree. I was the first to review it so I think it just came out.

Replacement for MicroPulse monitor panel?
Intensely dislike that stupid panel, right or wrong... first because I'm color-blind and staring at a stack of muted LED colors in addition to second, trying to decipher the coded information is NOT user friendly.
I am hoping there is a direct wire-in replacement for the cryptic panel that does not require gutting my tank cover and replacing sensors, wires, etc.
Not looking forward to spending 3-4 hours on my back cutting holes and making up for this product mistake.
Maybe???
If so, what?

Very low water pressure for hot water from pump
Hi All,
Just got our 2012 out of storage, and while sanitizing the fresh water system, I noticed that there is very little pressure on the hot side of the faucet.
When the faucet is full-on cold, the pump revs up and there is decent pressure. When it is full-on hot, the pump runs, but it revving very low. This is most noticable at the kitchen faucet, but happens on all of them.
When hooked to city water, there was a difference between full-on hot and cold, but it was not as pronounced.
My guess is there is some blockage in the hot water line someplace.
Any suggestions on diagnosing and fixing myself? Or do I need to take it in?
We are using it this weekend (don't need the pump) and then again in 2 weeks (definitely DO need the pump).
Thanks in advance!
Jeff

Mid-Missouri Boondock, October 2014
This is a popular annual Boondocking event for those who need a break and want to get back to nature and enjoy the fall colors in Missouri woods. The group has a special permit from Missouri Department of Conservation to camp adjacent to the 48 acre Rudolph Bennitt Lake in Rudolph Bennitt State Park. RBSP is located 19 miles north of Columbia, MO on US Hwy 63, then 5 miles west on Route F, then 2.75 miles north on Route T, then 0.5 mile west on County Rd. 2930. Canoes, kayaks, and boats with electric motors are encouraged as the lake is beautiful this time of year, and the fishing (MO fishing permit required) has the potential to be entertaining. We will be doing a Catch & Release fishing tournament again on Saturday, and have a campfire/potluck on Saturday evening. There is a pit toilet on site but otherwise, be prepared to boondock. Check the Airforums calendar October 2-5, 2014 to access the RSVP page.

Hot/Dry vs. "cool/wet"
So some time back I got a dehumidifier for my airstream to use. I use 15am only from home at this point (will get the 50amp setup in the coming 6-9 months or so) and it seems to run fine with that.
My question is:
I live in Alabama. My strategy right now is to close up the airstream entirely and run the dehumidifier and keep it at 50% humidity inside the airstream.
Is it better to be hot in that thing when stored at my house all summer with no air flow but DRY?
I think when I first plugged in the unit, it read humidity at like 75% so it seems intuitive that hot and dry is preferred...I guess?
It sucks out a full 30 pint to fill the unit about ever 2 days or so...
I also during my last drip to georgia with my wife brought it along and ran the unit at night along with my AC just to see what would happen.
Well, we got there at about noon on a friday, and ran the dehumidier all day and barely collected any water...but overnight while asleep (and temps dropped) it collected approximately 15 pints.
Its subjective and perhaps in my head, but running that unit along with AC seemed to make things even more dry over night.
Also, I ran it in the bathroom while showering and it made for no condensation around the shower...usually the aluminum interior skin around the shower tends to get all misty including around the overhead led lighting...didnt happent with the unit running along with the small exhaust fan running.
Happy Monday everyone

Lucky Me
My 66 Overlander is parked in the driveway. Somehow this morning when using my string trimmer, and not really near the trailer; it shot a rock up and broke the Corning curved window in the trailer living room. I didn't even knw it until I came out with the blower to clean up debris and saw the glass shards. Yikes!!
I freaked.
Here is the lucky part: The trailer came with one extra curved glass window with trim intact. I have carefully stored it the past 3+ years, and thankfully because it is the exact fit.
Question- does the aluminum top piece slide into the piece on the trailer? It looks like it does. If so any tips for removing and reinstalling the glass? This has the top trim piece and both clips for the openers already attached.
I am sad and happy at the same today...thanks to the PO who had some great foresight.

Trailer vs Interstate, need advise (Newbie)
Hi, Please help me decide if I should get a trailer or an Interstate Van.
I am interested in the Flying Cloud 19 being pulled by a 2500 Cummings Diesel truck.
What concerns me:
1. The fridge is not a 3-way and you can not run it while traveling to keep your food cold. Propane while driving might not be safe, correct?
2. There is no generator. I live in Florida and it would be nice to run the A/C in case there is no hookup.
I am new at this and would appreciate any other advice.
Thanks, Gerhard

Shower and Kitchen Sink Faucet Leaking
My 2009 Classic Limited has been sitting all winter and when I got in and turned on the water pressure pump...water starting spewing from the shower faucet and kitchen faucet and they both came loose. Its almost as though the pressure blew them off but that can't be the case. Any suggestions? I tried snaping them back on but can't.

I just posted a new ad on Airstream Classifieds.
I am desperately looking for a 30' to 32' Airstream trailer that has a good frame and undamaged aluminum skin. I am not worried about the floor nor interior. The trailer will be gutted and rebuild with modern materials and appliances. As the trailer will be shipped to Dubai, a purchase location near an Eastern US Sea port is preferential. Please only contact me if the frame, and aluminum body and windows are in good to great condition. Not worried about anything else!

2x4 under floor?
Hello fellow Argonauts. I own a 1972, 26' rear bath, full bed model. I've been getting her ready for a trip, and I'm pretty happy about the condition the trailer is in. First of all, the flooring in the back of the trailer looks like new plywood, but I know it's not because you can see the age in the screws, etc.
The trailer has spent its entire life in the Chihuahua desert of El Paso, TX, so it's rarely had any water hitting it. Of course it has had some encounters with water, and the customary rot near the curved window by the door is there. I've been lurking on these forums for years prior to purchasing a trailer and for a year after I purchased my Argosy. I also attended the Vintage Trailer Academy in Albuquerque last year, so I've done my research.
Here's the strange thing: I don't recall anyone mentioning a 2x4 running down the center of the trailer. Since I'm not doing an entire frame off, I've been using a circular saw set t the proper depth with the intent of removing sections where rot is present and replacing. To do this, I am cutting strategically so that I can A. fit the wood in in sections, and B. using the beams as supports in the best way possible.
Is it normal to have a 2x4 running down the center of an Argosy? Here is a link to a picture. if you look at the left side of the photo, you'll see where I have cut away part of the plywood, revealing a 2x4 underneath. The 2x4 is in excellent condition. I was just shocked to find it.

What is the value of a 2004 Interstate?
We have some camping buddies that are hot for an Interstate.
It is extremely clean and well kept, but...
It has 144,000 miles and the asking price is $34,000.
Is this Interstate worth $34,000?

Newbie Question
My husband and I just bought a 29 Foot Land Yacht Ambassador AS. We actually haven't even picked it up yet. The PO purchased it from an auction last year and doesn't have any information on it. He said he assumed it is a 1976 model but wasn't sure. The metal plate on the outside has a manufactured date of 9/3/75. Would that make it a '75 model or a '76? We want to find an owner's manual or factory manual but I'm not sure which one I should be looking for. Thanks!
Magic Chef Oven - need model number!
I posted this in the stove section, but have received no replies. I thought I would try it over here since the oven was originally in an early 90's model Excella! Any help would be appreciated...
I was given a Magic Chef oven, and I am trying to figure out the model number. The information under the burners is no longer available. I need to replace the glass on the front of the oven door and the oven door handle. It was originally in an early 90's excella
I know there is a wealth of knowledge on this board, so I am hoping someone will know either the model number or part numbers I need!
The oven has 4 burners, "white" where the burners are. Black everywhere else. The dimensions of the oven are 22"H x 21.5"W x 22ish" D. The oven door measures 17.25"H x 19.5"W. There is a window in the door that measures 4 5/8'H x 13 5/8"W. The window is down 3" from the top of the door and 3" in on each side. I don't know the length of the oven door handle, but the screws are 14" on center.
I will try to post pictures below. If anybody can help me, that would be fantastic!

Vent Help!
Hey all!
I just inherited a 1963 airstream from my grandmother :D. Only problem is that the rear fan vent cover is missing (over the bathroom) and the living room vent cover is missing (I believe it is 14" x 24"). Vintage airstream supply has the longer one for $150  I cannot afford that but would like to weatherize my girl until at least next summer.
Suggestions and thoughts would be helpful.

I am a Newbie
I put down on my profile that my Airstream is a 1972 Ambassador, but that really is what my father and mother owned. He was a teacher, and as a family we went tent camping every summer for months at a time. He finally could afford a travel trailer, and got a Scotty after I graduated from high school. But his dream was always to own an Airstream.
Finally he retired, sold the house, and bought a brand new 1972 Airstream Ambassador in Lansing, Michigan. The price was $10,752.72. I have the original MSRP sheet, and the base price was $9,395.00.
My parents moved into the Airstream and traveled around the country full time, living aboard from early 1972 until late 1978. They loved the lifestyle, and I never heard him complain about the quality of the trailer. Whenever something went wrong, he took the trailer to an Airstream dealer and got prompt service.
My dad kept a detailed log of his travels and expenses. Many campgrounds back then cost $3 or $4 per day for full hookup. Some were higher, up to $9 per day. When poor health finally caused him to hang it up in 1978, he had put 37,521 miles on the trailer.
Sadly, he put it up for sale on consignment for $6,000 with an Airstream dealer in Florida who sold it and didn't give my dad the money. My dad was pretty well house bound by then with his illness, so I tried to get the money for him. I had the choice of putting the dealer in jail or working out a payment plan. He agreed to a payment plan, then promptly went bankrupt, and there went my opportunity to put him in the tank.
I've been wanting to get a smaller Airstream, but I've been concerned about some of the quality issues that have been discussed on these forums. I don't remember my dad ever complaining about quality. Once in awhile something would break, but that seemed to be a rare thing.
So I'm debating now: should I buy a new one or a used one? And if a used one, how far back do you have to go to find that quality my dad loved so much?

2005 Airstream Safari 25 - California
Title: 2005 Airstream Safari 25 - California
We just listed our 2005 Airstream Safari for Sale on Airstream Classifieds.
Year: 2005 Make: Airstream Model: Safari Length: 25'
Safari LS with Twin Beds in rear.
Safari upgrade package which includes spare tire, fantastic fan, black tank rinsing system, Aquajet water pump, cast aluminum tail lamp, screen door guard and galley faucet with sprayer/filter and the galley skylight with shade. It has an upgraded stereo with XM and CD and ready for Satellite.
New LED Brightech -2nd Generation BA15s LED Light Bulbs throughout interior of cabin. These use about 1/3 the power of regular bulbs (great when boon docking), and are cool to the touch.
Trailer is keep on RV pad on side of house. Four fairly new tires in (2012/2013). Has tank monitors with hardware on roof resealed. The batteries are 6 volt golf cart type in almost new condition.
This sweet airstream was purchased new and carefully maintained. It has been the perfect trailer for us. It is not top of the line fancy which we did not want. It is comfortable and spacious for two. The kitchen can truly be used for cooking with 3 burner stove top and Amana oven. This can cook a full Thanksgiving feast for friends.
In 2005 airstream did not offer the wraparound windows on this model. We have not missed them. Also, the fabric choices are âBeach Clubâ. The bed covers are original and in great condition.
All digital manuals will be provided with sale. (AS Sales book, Parts book, Outside light diagram, Dometic parts book, Fantastic Fan parts book, and Safari Trailers owners manual).
This trailer has limited travel mostly in California. Furthest east has been Zion and Grand Canyon (South/North Rims). We still adore this trailer, but health reasons are forcing me to sell this wonderful Airstream.

1947 Airstream Liner 22 - Ontario
Title: 1947 Airstream Liner 22 - Ontario
We just listed our 1947 Airstream Liner for Sale on Airstream Classifieds.
Year: 1947 Make: Airstream Model: Liner Length: 22'
This extremely rare Airsteam is the 23rd trailer built by Airstream post WWII. It is one of three known to exist. No's 1 -24 were built before Airstream was incorporated and the data plate reads " Airstream trailer built by Wallace M Byam". He was the founder of the company and most likely laid hands on this unit during the build.
The shell is complete as well as the original tube frame but the interior has been removed some time in the past.
This trailer will be worth well over $100K when fully restored.
You won't find another one in Canada at all. I hate to part with it but family matters have forced my hand. I can deliver it to anywhere in southern Ontario free of charge.

Remove/replace K200 drift pins
Not sure if I have the right names/terms here.
I am trying to repair my OEM KT200 (?) entry door lock. I need to remove/ replace several drift pins (? small split round shaft) that holds*parts in place or acts as a stop for a lever. One of these is flush mounted. How do I get these out?
Also where can I get new drift pins and a new lock cylinder. Inland RV? local locksmith?
Thanks

Chassis parts availability?
I have been searching and not finding much info, thought I would ask.
Is there anywhere I can buy the stamped sheet metal pieces that weld to the outside of the frame rails? The ones that the belly pan rivet too?
Also how about the two plates that hold the step?
Mine are not rusted, but the slots that guide the step down and then the notch that locks it in place are all worn and bent out of shape. It is, of course, fixable as anything is but I think if they are available that would be the simplest way.
I have also found that Dexter makes new replacement axles through retail dealerships, but does anyone sell rebuild kits? The housings of the axles I have are fine, the trailing arms are good, the stub axle is great as are the bearings and brakes...all that needs replacing is the rubber spring inside.
Thanks folks.
PS: Where have you folks found the most reasonable axle supplier?

instrument panel lights
The fuse for our instrument panel lights on our 1978 motorhome keeps blowing out. It is a 3A fuse, and I've resisted the temptation to bump it up to 5. It lasts a few minutes when I replace it, so it is not an obvious (to me) short. I test it by turning them off and on, and it will eventually blow. Couldmit be the switch? There does not appear to be any easy way to get in behind it and test for shorts, so I'm looking for someone who may have run in to this before. Or I don't see much harm in stepping it up to a 5A fuse, or am I missing something?
I'd also like to add an amen to the complaints about the location of the fuse panel. The PO had a CB radio blocking it!

Generator Exhaust Pipe Fell Off!
samedi 28 juin 2014
While driving a couple of days ago, my generator exhaust pipe fell off from the generator! Fortunately, I was exiting the freeway. When I examined it with the emergency roadside person, we noticed that the c-clamps and pipe had rusted. The AI Parts department was closed for inventory on Friday. So, I am now driving with the exhaust pipe held in place with a rope. Has anyone experienced this? If yes, what did you do?
Interior skins screwed to frame
On my 1949 Liner, a previous owner apparently removed the interior skins at one point, and when they reattached the skins to the frame used steel sheet metal screws (either #8 or #10) 1/2 inch long. I'm removing the skins again to replace the insulation, seal leaks, replace all wiring, etc. Many of the screws are rusty, and all have a lot of paint encrusting the head and other stuff encrusting the threads. Most of the rivets that are merely connecting aluminum to aluminum (e.g. sections of the caps at end, and along the seams at top) have been left intact.
I don't think I can trust a rivet to attach securely in those holes that screws were used in, but I'm not certain. I'd have to drill new holes if I want to attach with rivets, leaving many empty holes. I don't want to completely replace all the skins just to prevent empty holes. Is there any possibility I can trust rivets in those holes? Does anybody see a problem with reattaching using similar screws (but aluminum)? Any other ideas?

D or E Rated Tires?
I getting ready to replace my Marathons with Maxxis tires. The size I'm getting, 225x75 R15, comes in both D & E load ratings. My current Marathons are D rated. My 27' Flying Cloud weighs around 5800 dry and maxes out in the high 6's when loaded for a long trip.
The price difference is negligible, so I'm wondering if there are any considerations I should be aware of like really rougher ride due to stiffer sidewalls, etc, in choosing one rating over the other. I'm inclined to get the E's simply because they will end up being loaded lower in their range than the D's.
Thanks for your help.

Cost of Professional Interior Renovation
Hi, I have long wanted a vintage airstream and have found what looks like one that is in good condition as far as frame, subfloor, etc. The interior has been gutted. It is a 26 foot 1965 Overlander. I am simply not very handy and would need to have a professional do the interior renovation. Before purchasing the airstream I was wondering if anybody has had a professional simply do an interior renovation and if so approximately how much it cost. Also, if anybody could recommend somebody in Texas it would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance for your time.

325 Classic Windows
I am going to do a "Plexiglass" retrofit of the passenger side fixed cockpit window. I have been unable to locate an OEM replacement, and pretty much need to have a window there. So, it's going to be acrylic.
This brings me to the question, has anyone here ever actually replace one of these windows. Does the frame need to be de-riveted to put the new pane in position? Or is there another simpler way?
Ready to cut!

Removing tow ball and equilizer sway bar
Hi: Our first trip out. We are finding it a bit annoying to remove the ball and sway bar when we park, lifting it up into the pickup bed and then needing to reinstall when we are ready to leave.
First, it is so heavy, it takes both my husband and I.
And it is difficult to lift into the pickup bed to store. And to slide it
out to the ground and lift it in place when we need to move.:(
So, I need some suggestions on how to eliminate that pain. How do you handle this, where do you store your ball and sway bar? Is there any sort of lift or support to maneuver the thing without breaking our backs? Is there some sort of slide to drop it on and move it under the trailer, then
lock it up?
Thanks for any suggestion and help!
We love our new "stream."

bug excluder strip
OK so I may have invented a new term. If the part already has a name please clue me in. In the slots where the window support rods move up and down, there are what looks like strips of horse hair / brush material on either side of the rod. The obvious purpose for these is to keep the flies on the outside. 1974 was a while ago and the strips on my old Argosy are either gone or much the worse for wear. Are these replaceable? Has a better product come along? How do I deal with this?

66 Globetrotter fresh water leak up front?
Hey y'all,
Hope somebody can advise me on this. All of a sudden today(I guess that's the way most things happen...) I noticed water dripping slowly just a bit forward of the front door on my 1966 Globetrotter. I checked the pump compartment on the opposite front side, and all's dry there.
I took out enough plywood from the front bed to be able to see the starboard forward corner, and it was wet, but couldn't see where it's coming from....seems the water line running to the starborard side kitchen, bath sink and water tank are under the flooring.
I read on the forum that a common occurrence is that, if you fill the water tank too rapidly, there's a vent tube that can pop off and leak. I don't know if my tank(blue plastic) has one or where it's located, or how you check it.
I drained the tank, and started over. The dripping begins pretty quickly after I begin filling it from the cap at the front of the Airstream. I had the tank full the previous couple of days with no problems. There are no leaks apparent under the sinks, only in that starboard curbside corner.
Anyone have any ideas as to how to best proceed. Any advice is sure welcome!

Welding plastic.
I have some fairly tight cracks in the shower surround in my Argosy 20 that I would like to repair and stop them from getting any worse. I alsi have discovered a small tight crack in the shower pan. I think one option would be to repair them with epoxy the other option would be plastci welding. Welding requires knowing what type of plastic I have so I can use the proper Rod(PVC, ABS and FF) Any experience out there on this type of repair?

Title: 1968 Airstream Ambassador 28 - Ohio
We just listed our 1968 Airstream Ambassador for Sale on Airstream Classifieds.
Year: 1968 Make: Airstream Model: Ambassador Length: 28'
We have a very original Airstream Ambassador Land Yacht in the International series.
This is a very original equipment Airstream. Original equipment includes:
Dometic fridge, stainless 2 burner stove, double stainless sink with 1 cover, oven, hot water heater, air conditioner. All appliances are operational. Rear bath is complete and in great condition, it is not all cracked around the rivets like most of this era are.
The storage drawers throughout the camper contain the original plastic bins that they are supposed to have. The front couch has the original material and needs recovered, the material has split. Great windows and cranks, two of the windows were replaced at sometime with plexiglass replacements, I have now 2 new glass replacements to make the windows correct. Screens are complete as well and in great shape.
Skin is in great shape, the only real dings are around the bottom edges where they all get bumped by people trying to squeeze things under it. Original great condition huge Zip Dee awning (blue & white). Same style Zip Dee awning on rear window.
Has American Racing style aluminum slot wheels that needs new center caps(current ones rusty). Also have the original steel wheels with the very rare original hubcaps.
This Airstream has been taken care of, the insides are in great shape and not beat to death and all scratched up. It has been carpeted with a Berber type carpet.
Has the electric tongue jack that operates fine.
This is the double twin bed option with new upgraded mattresses. Storage drawers under the beds with the original plastic storage bins.
Ask questions if you have any or come see it.

1974 Airstream Overlander 27 - Wisconsin
Title: 1974 Airstream Overlander 27 - Wisconsin
We just listed our 1974 Airstream Overlander for Sale on Airstream Classifieds.
Year: 1974 Make: Airstream Model: Overlander Length: 27'
Rare and desirable center bath 1974 International Overlander model (first year for separate black and grey water tanks). Polished in 2002 and stored inside year round (my wife can still use exterior as a makeup mirror). We have used it exclusively for wilderness camping since purchasing it in 2001. Never used as a residence or extended stay camping, and a non-smoking unit. No dents or dings other than from 40 years of normal usage.
Goodyear tires, brakes/bearings, and deadman break all upgraded and good. New Suburban furnace and new awning several years ago as well. Interior generally original but architecturally upgraded in living and sleeping areas (ideal for a couple and for dogs). Has unique, original Airstream driver-view brake light monitor on side of trailer (so driver can see if lights are working without leaving the tow vehicle). Also has full size gas oven (best way to camp).
Selling only because we purchased a longer Airstream last year and just purchased a vintage Airstream 360 motorhome - so our original vintage trailer must go to a new home.
Generally in good, ready to camp condition. If interested we are happy to email a complete list of what works and what doesn't work for full disclosure before you come to inspect it. Serial No: 127B4 J2549

Here's my '67 Overlander
Bought this 1967 Airstream Overlander Land Yacht International last month in Fayetteville, AR. The PO hadn't owned it very long and did not know much about it's history.
Thanks to this forum, I have a good plan and feel confident in my ability to complete this project. My son and I managed to get it gutted and skinned over several work days and its ready for the next phase. At this point, I'm going to take a couple of weeks off before I get to work on the frame and floor.

Leaking curved front window
I have a 2008 20 ft. Bambi Safari with the great curved front windows.
Recently, we drove in a driving rain and discovered that the front curved window leaked.
I will probably take it to a dealer. However, has anyone had any experience
with this problem? Is the solution to completely remove the window and
reinstall?

Antsy McClain - Atlanta, GA - Oct. 17, 2014
We just heard that Antsy McClain will be playing at the Red Light Café on Friday October 17, 2014. I don't know the ticket price yet or the time of the show. I also don't know if it will be a solo show or if he'll have some of the Troubadours playing with him.
I'll post additional information as it becomes available. Anyone interested in camping or attending the show please post information on this thread.
On a related note... nilesrob & karenjude along with my wife and I saw Antsy open the show for Tommy Emmanuel last night at Variety Playhouse. It was a great show!

Gutting 1966 Caravel
I am in the process of gutting a pretty original 1966 Caravel with the intent of reconfiguring the interior to make it more useful to us as our needs have changed. (I probably should have sold the trailer and bought another for this project, but this path was easier to deal with.) Anyway, I will have many original parts in good shape, including all the cushions, the stove and sink, maybe some cabinets, light fixtures, etc., that I no longer have any use for. Anyone out there interested in these items for their own restoration work? I can get some photos of the parts next week. It's all located in Stoughton, MA at the moment and can be picked up there. The shop at New England Airstream is stripping it out for me before I put in a new interior, and they have salvaged what they can. Email me at jclin57@gmail.com if you have questions or interest.
Cigarette lighter inverter for Samsung TV?
We have a Samsung LED TV in our AS and would like to run it off of our batteries using a cigarette lighter inverter. It doesn't draw a lot of power (<50 Watts). I've heard that some TVs are sensitive to the type of inverter (modified sine wave vs pure sine wave). Has this been an issue for anyone usinging an inexpensive cigarette lighter type inverter to run a Samsung?
Airstream Mud Flaps
Our dump valves are right behind the Airstreams wheels and catch all kinds of trash, mud and crud. Has any one installed some mud flaps on their trailer and are any available for purchase. I have seen some home made ones on a 28 ft classic, and they looked really good and seem to work. Any help out there ??
Towing on The Beartooth Highway
Have any of you towed accross The Beartooth Highway with a 30 footer? I'm thinking of towing from the NE entry of Yellowstone to Red Lodge with an overnight stay up on The Beartooth. I've driven the route w/o my Silver Bullet and wonder if I can traverse the hairpin turns. Thanks for any comments.
Help in the VA/TN area (tri-cities)
vendredi 27 juin 2014
Hello there! I am looking at buying a '66 sovereign 30ft. I have been in the market for a camper for 3 years now and have driven all over looking at them. I never considered an airstream until recently I went and looked at this one. I really love the look of the old girl and it is in remarkably good shape. I just don't know alot about them. Is there anyone more experienced than myself who could go with me to look this one over and tell me their opinion? I'm in the tricities area (Bristol va). I will be willing to put some gas in your car for the trip and buy you a cup of coffee to discuss the old gal. Haha. If anyone can help, please call or text Wes at (276)494-1187. Or email me at westang87@yahoo.com
Thanks for any help!
Thanks for any help!
2012 Flying Cloud 25FB electrical?
In the past two days the 120 volt service through the rear connector has been going on and off. I thought it was an issue at the pedestal but today we switched parks 120 came on for a brief time and then quit entirely. When I switched to the front connection everything is fine. Some where I have a loose connection to the rear 120. Any ideas where I should start looking?
Tow Vehicle advice
Folks,
Tons of great information on this forum. Extremely helpful.
My wife and I have been talking about getting an Airstream forever.
Well, enough talk. The time is here, we're doing it!
And you know what that means? A bunch of questions you've all heard before. Don't worry, I've done a lot of reading on the boards already, so I'll try to avoid being that guy who doesn't search at all before asking. ;)
We're debating on getting a 25 or 27, the International Sterling is the front runner.
None of our cars are big enough/ are suitable for hauling a trailer, so we have to buy a tow vehicle
I have access to a newer F150 through one of my companies. I bring it home every once in a while to haul stuff. I have to be honest with you, it doesn't handle well and is not very comfortable. (It's a 2012 FX4 V8). And if we got a pick up truck, it would never be used when we're at home, so a big waste. So if I can avoid getting a pick up truck to haul the Airstream, great. But if you folks with experience think we need one, I'd love to get a recommendation what the best one is as my only experience is with this particular F150.
But I see that some forum members use X5, ML, RDX, Cayenne and Touareg. All of them are fine vehicles, some even have Diesel now for better torque and mpg. But I feel I need a little more room in the trunk than what these cars offer.
So I've narrowed it down to the following vehicles
The GL -- I've owned an ML before and the quality was questionable. I was glad the day we traded it in, so one of those cars. But things improve and we could have been unlucky with that particular vehicle. What engine would you guys recommend? They have the GL350 diesel, the GL450 with a smaller V8, the GL550 with the same cylinder volume V8, but about 65 more horses and better torque and the GL63 AMG with 550 ponies. All of them have the same towing capacity. Which one would you recommend?
--
The 2014 Range Rover. It has a V8 5.0 and a supercharged V8 5.0, both has the same towing capacity. They seem to be offering a good towing package with transmission cooling etc. and some good advice on their website. I have read some threads here that the Sport is not a good option, but that thread was from 2008. The supercharged V6 is not an option, I understand that. How do you feel about this truck?
--
The Q7. We're big Audi people. We've got two in our garage, an S6 and a Q5, both fantastic cars. But the Q7 is not very good looking and I haven't found anyone in there that uses it as a towing vehicle, there must be a reason why.
--
Ford Expedition. The only big American truck I have driven that handles well. We've rented an Expedition a couple of times the last few months and it was actually OK, much better than a Suburban or Tahoe. What are your thoughts on that?
--
Any other vehicles I have overlooked?
Thank you in advance for sharing your experiences and giving us advice.

Hello from N Texas
Hello - wanted to take a minute to introduce us - we are currently looking into AS's as a fulltime RV scenario to give your three boys something more in life than what they are currently receiving.
Finally signed up after "crawling" around the site for a few days - so far fouond a ggreat deal of information and hopefully over time be able to contribute to the site as well.
Finally signed up after "crawling" around the site for a few days - so far fouond a ggreat deal of information and hopefully over time be able to contribute to the site as well.
New member looking for help/reassurance???
Hello, and thanks to all in advance.... We are looking into fulltime RV'ing for a year or so and both have always loved the vintage RV's and AS expecially. Really enjoying the site - been crawling around it for a few days - so now registered hoping to make some contribution to it later down the road....
We are a family of 6 - myself, wife, three boys, and a dog.... wanting to give our kids more of a life and experience then what they are currently receiving - and a nice break for me from the labors of work and some quality family time...
Current TV is going to be a 2009 Chevrolet Suburban 1500 Z1 4x4 - 5.3l - 6-speed trans, 3.42 (yes I know not as desireable, but the 6-speed helps "counter" this a bit) - going to add in adjustable rear shocks, HD trans cooler, TT brake controller, Steel braided lines (basically the equivalent to the Z82 K5L HD tow package from factory) - I mention this since the GCWR on the burb is 11.5K but with the Z82 the GCWR is 14K... and upgrading to EQ/load hitch.
While upgrading to another TW has been discussed - since the burb is almost paid for it makes more sense to keep this one - and we are not looking forward to three growing boys in the back of a pick-up on the trip (you know the whole he's touching me thing)
We are looking to go with a mid 60 to (possibly) early 80's AS - due to the lighter TW of the older models...and I have looked at several on-line and even interested in a few listed for sale through this site...
In comparing the older TW listings - these should be circa 5000 or less for the 25-31 footers... not wanting to break the bank - but looking for one that is solid and sound - no major repairs needed - and most 90%-98% ish upgrded - no major issues or repairs needed - mostly needing to add our "personal" touches to it...
We have considered looking around the 25/26 foot mark - and adding in the 5th bunk, or working out sleeping arrangements - but have seen a few 76-81 AS Sovereign 31's - which would fit the bill nicely - however I am worried with this length in some of the older campsites - also I am worried about being too heavy for the suburban at this length (however I do see pics of burbs towing these all the times - just never sure of the legnth) - more for the stopping then the pulling...
Again, thank you in advance for any assistance....

'71 Magic Chef Wall Oven issue
The wall oven was working great, but now the pilot lights and stays on with a strong flame- but the burner will not light.
I tested the thermocouple by holding a BBQ lighter on the probe for awhile and that trips the gas valve to open. When I remove the heat source the burner dies.
So- I thought, OK just get a new thermocouple, but it appears to be a non-removable part connected to the gas valve.
Anyone have any experience with this or can tell me where to source the parts?
( Tag says LT 931-2 SV-M and is actually a Gaffers & Stattler under M.C. name)

Italian style scooter on back.
Hello from a new Airstream owner.
I have a 20 ft Flying Cloud, I was told that the frame of an Airstream would not hold a Motorbike but my Scooter only weighs in at just under 200 lbs, looking under the back of the Airstream the frame that extends to the bumper, is no lightweight in thickness. A huge Harley will weigh in the 1000 lb plus area, so I can understand why they can not be added onto the back of an Airstream but this scooter is light.
I had thought that I could put a hitch on the front of my Tahoe but on reading around, some Police in some States are inclined to give warnings and tickets for a bike on the front of a truck.
I am a rather good welder and see no reason that a hitch could not be welded between the two ends of the frame that would support a small scooter and it's carrying rack.
So my question is, is there anyone reading this post that has some knowledge on this idea of mine.
Cheers in advance,
James.

Replacement (keyed) deadbolt for '66 AS?
Is there a replacement deadbolt that will fit my '66 Ambassador? The "lock" on the doorknob isn't working and I doubt I can find a replacement for that. I would really like a deadbolt that is keyed on the outside and twists on the inside.
I've seen two at Vintage Trailer Supply, but don't know which one (if either) would fit. Is this a DIY job?
Thanks,
Tracie
FYI: Once I can lock the door and the gas leak(s) are repaired, we're ready to hit the road!!!

Loaded Brake Assembly Replacement
Time for brakes on the 28' International and I am going to buy the pre-loaded brake assemblies. What are everyones thoughts/experiences on upgrading to the self adjusting assemblies and upgrading to the 7,000 lb. capacity rating?
Should I consider an Odyssey?
I noticed that a significant portion of older Airstreams for sale in my part of the world are Argosy models. So
what are the advantages and disadvantages of a used Argosy over a similar older Airstream? Are they lighter or heavier than an equivalent AS? I love polished Airstreams, but creatively painted is cool also, and a lot less work than polishing. (You can color match your TV.)
I know that the Argosy was used as a test bed, and has pano windows, steel end caps and are painted. Other than that I'm not sure.
I am looking around 25'. A 22' is too small and a 28' might be too big (or heavy?). Ideally I'd like two double beds for better space utilization.
What should I look for when considering an Odyssey?

An unexpected spark
I was wiring a temporary plug onto the end of the hot water heater circuit in my 76 argosy today.
Touched the metal plug housing to the positive battery terminal and surprise! Sparks! The AC circuit was OFF.
?????
It took a minute to figure it out.
The metal housing on the AC plug is bonded to the AC ground which is bonded directly to the trailer frame as is the battery negative. = closed circuit
probably a really unlikely event but worth noting anyways, because at certain times while working on things there are a lot of DC hots floating around, and any tool or appliance with a grounded metal housing would create this effect.
Solution don't be an idiot like me with Dc hots floating around
