Help ordering zip dee for 16' Bambi

jeudi 31 juillet 2014

Anyone order an awning from Zip dee for a late model Bambi? I have a 2007 16' Bambi. I will order direct. They want the measurement from center rivet to center rivet at the bottom of the coach, following the top rail down along the main seam. This turns out to be the seam along the door and the one in the back behind the wheel.

Zip dee says this number should be 6' 8-1/4". But I'm measuring about 6' 9-1/2".

Help! :)

Has anyone had a leak repaired at Camper Clinic II?

Just discovered some major leaking (right in between the emergency exit window and left side of the pano in the FB) during a rain shower...the closest large airstream dealer is Camper Clinic II. How are they on their repairs-especially on the aluminum skin. Or is this something I need to take care of at the factory?

1958 Airstream - California

Title: 1958 Airstream - California

We just listed our 1958 Airstream NULL for Sale on Airstream Classifieds.

Year: 1958 Make: Airstream Model: NULL Length: '

The "Footer" or "Traveller" is the closest I can find to my 17-18 foot small Airstream. In my research, the Norwalk, Ca. made 1958 trailer may not have been officially named. The serial number is 4106.

This little trailer is beautiful and in good condition for such an old timer. She's not polished, but will shine up very well. Much of her life she's been sheltered under a roof. I'm not certain of the originality of the cabinetry, but it is of that era for certain. There are black painted wood doors and grey cabinet boxes. Original items include:

dome light,

Hehr windows and screens intact,

bargman #9 tail lights and all running lights undamaged,

classic black and gold California license plate from the era,

indoor walls,

dinette table,

hubcaps,

A/C on roof is of the era (some damage from age),

Princess 3 burner gas stove top,

sink and fixtures,

dometic fridge (needs work),

screen door with locking cover door,

all running light covers are intact (not hooked up and may need some electrical work),

hubcaps and brush guards,

original locking door handle with one original key and another recently made key,

The aluminum skin is intact with one shallow dent and it will shine up well. The tires are in great shape too.

The A/C on the roof may not be original and hasn't been run in 10 years. Probably needs charging. The floor has vinyl and feels solid except for one small area that has not worsened in 20 years. Dinette bench cushions need replacement due to old foam. Curtains need replacing. There's lots of storage under the dinette benches, under the full bed and in cabinetry. The floor heater has not been utilized since I've owned it but there is an access panel. Our very small electrical space heater heats this little trailer up very quickly and we thought it easier to use that provided we have power access.

This is the first year with 7 panel end caps. There are tear drop shaped wheel cutouts.

This trailer needs no overhaul unless you wish to remodel everything. There is no wet bath, but carries a port-a-potty in one of the floor to ceiling closets. The floor plan includes a full sized bed and the dinette converts to a bed as well. It appears that the lower cabinets may have been moved a few inches to accommodate this wonderful full sized bed. Or not. I found this floor plan online some years ago but have not been able to find it recently.

It's hard to part with this Airstream but it's not getting used and is currently not sheltered. Someone else needs to use it and love it.

It can be seen in Long Barn, Ca., which is about 20 miles east of Sonora, Ca. in the Sierra Nevada mountains.

water pump not filling lines

I have a 2012 Eddie Bauer (just purchased) and on my first night of use. The water pump runs but just sputters air. The pump does not seem to suck water. I have removed the intake and sucked water to fill the line, but to know avail. I know the hot water tank needs to fill but the pump just runs and nothing comes out the faucet. Any help?

Holding tank questions?

Pertaining to new to me 2006 Safari 23. While flushing and sanitizing both my black and gray tanks the shower pan filled with gray water. Nasty but not as bad as black tank water. What did I do wrong?

Also is there any way to divert the water from the gray tank to the black tank?

We've Got an Airstream!

Picking up our 2014 23FB Flying Cloud tomorrow. So excited about finally having our very own Airstream! I'm retired, husband retiring in a month. We're going to enjoy fly fishing and field trialing with our two dogs in Cloud luxury. We've loved our 1981 Trillium 5500 (fiberglass) for 10 years but it's just too small and we're always fixing things! Husband's grandparents had an Airstream a long, long time ago and he's wanted one ever since. I've been lurking on Air Forums for a time... now it's time to join in the conversation!

Replace my Barker Tounge Jack

HI, guys,

I'm thinking of replacing the tounge jack on my 1989 Excella 29 foot.

It's a Barker.

The folks at AS said they replaced it with a super jack.

The question I have is

is the Deluxe Hi-power 3500 worth the extra cash over the VIP 3500?

Another Two Feet, Please!

New Coach Happiness, Part II. After several wonderful years, and our first long multi-week roadtrips in years, we decided to relook at our Airstream situation. Oh, what another 2'1" can do!

The same 2008 (Safari) Sport 22 that took us all over the west was beginning to feel a bit limiting. The super-sized front dinette was always deployed as a queen-sized bed, leaving us one side gaucho with lap trays for living/dining space. The Sport's lighter, less extensive features made for a great towing, simple design. Yet a look at the current Flying Cloud line made us long for a bit more luxury. The Flying Cloud FB 23 is essentially the 2010 and newer Sport 22 FB plan, but with an extra closet and a walk around bed. So it fixed the two major livability issues. Well, and the higher end series had a lot more nice features like bigger tanks, LED lights, an inverter, full entertainment system and the like.

We wanted to stay in the same size class, and the medium sized diesel SUV remains our tow vehicle (600 lb hitch/6000 tow rating). Our first few highway hours show comparable mileage (16 MPG), and seat-of-pants tow feel, despite greater frontal area and 1100 more dry weight pounds. Well, the more leisurely turning of a two axle trailer did force me to take two extra attempts to back it into the shed!

And, our first trip in our SECOND Airstream will be the Texas Gulf Coast!

Replacement Hub for '68 Ambassabor

I need to locate a replacement hub for my '68 Ambassador. The plate the magnet rides against came loose and locked the rear wheel on driver's side during last trip. The plate can't be reattached because the holes are "wallowed out". Can't afford new axles yet, so any help locating a 12" hub with 6 studs would be appreciated.

Can I wipe it down with lacquer thinner to get the rest off?

Shop Manuals

The 325 Classic chassis is identified vaguely as the Chevy P30. I am fairly new to the hunt, but the P30 designation seems to be, even apparently in Chevy circles, a somewhat vague and non-specific bit of nomenclature. The VIN identifies the chassis as a P37, which I understand to be the motorhome version of the P30. However, when looking for parts, there seem to be so many sub-classifications and what-ifs and wherefores that identifying for parts purchase purposes as P30 is about as useful as saying that you need a "propeller" for your "airplane."

This vaguery appears to extend to the manuals and documents...

So, can somebody save me some time and expense and send me in the correct direction for a manual that might at least hit somewhere near my 325 Classic chassis?

Olympic NP Camping in August

We're heading to Olympic NP with three young grandchildren on Aug 10 for a week of camping. This will be our third annual trip to ONP with them, and we love South Beach, Hoh Rainforest and Sol Duc. Always a bit nervous heading there during school vacation with no reservations (the only reservable CG, Kalaloch, is booked months in advance), but we've never struck out and not found a site at those three. The Pacific NW weather is gorgeous right now, however, and the roads are thick with campers, so I'm considering back up plans. I'd appreciate any suggestions.

Airstream Models

Hi All-

I grew up with an airstream and have longed to bring back my fond memories with my family. From memory, we had a late 60's model, single axel, with the twin benches in front and a mid-ship pull out that my parents slept on. I think it was a 22', but not certain. I don't necessary need to buy the same model/year, but the layout seemed to work. This is going to be a process for me, one that I anticipate will take years to realize. I have strong skills in renovating and building (minus welding), but believe that between friends, my skills, etc, I could take on a project. I am antipating that I will take about a year to save the money and find the right project, and about 5 years to do the renovation (depending upon condition)-to help space out the cost, and still enjoy life. My end goal is to have an AS that we can use with the kids and then continue past into my "golden days" with the wife. I have been reading just about every thread on the site (LOVE THE PICTURES) about works in progress and am both completely terrified and extremely excited.

I would like to find something from the 60's or VERY early 70's, that can comfortable sleep 4. What I am struggling with is understsanding the different models and floor plans that existed during that time-frame. And, without starting a turf war, would love to hear if there is a sweet spot in terms of year and model that I should focus my search on. Any links/guidance/thoughts you have would be more than welcome!

GPS App - Recommendations?

I'm gradually learning to like or at least tolerate Windows 8.1 and my new "Surface" is helping. I've never warmed up to my current GPS and it's steered me wrong too many times.

So anyone have a great app they can recommend for my Surface. I really like the ergonomics of this thing and would like to use it to both pre-plan my routes and as a handy reference rather than have the ever intrusive "re-calculating" voice of the wretched Garman.

Thank you for your help.

Does size REALLY matter when full-timing?

Yes, folks, I'm another man that's hung up on size, so to speak :)

Here's the skinny: we are expecting our first munchkin in a few weeks, or thereabouts, and are underway with plans to transition to a full-timing family in about two years. In the meantime, I'm trying to do all the homework I can so that we make informed and intelligent decisions.

Our plan is to purchase the trailer sometime next year, but the size of the trailer seems to be a more difficult decision than I thought it would be. Now, we already have the tow vehicle: 2014 Ram 2500 with the Cummins. With the kid on the way, I needed to trade up from my regular cab Tacoma to something with a backseat, so the time was right for a new vehicle. I chose this truck because, having just moved back to Texas after 10 years in Colorado (I know, right??...who does that), we plan to spend a lot of time dragging the trailer up and down the Rocky Mountains. I knew with the Cummins I would never want for power, and I'm certain the exhaust brake will come in handy. I know the TV subject can really stir things up around here so I'm happy to have that decision made and done!

So, back to the topic at hand: trailer size. I think we could possibly squeak by in a 25FB, but I believe the 27FB is really as small as we would want to go. We plan to have at least one kiddo along with us, possibly two. And if you are at least as good with math as I am, you will see that means two very young munchkins in the trailer (if we decide to have 2, we would like to hit the road when the second hits 6 months). We are also considering the 28 and 30 lounge. I believe I'm partial to the layout and space of the 30. I'm a tall guy, and that larger lavatory space would be nice, as would the additional storage the trailer provides. If it matters, I plan to be working full-time as a software developer, so I need space to store the work gear and spread out a bit to get things done.

Here's the big question: would springing for the larger trailer - the 30 over the 27FB or 28 (same exterior lengths) - limit where we can take it and stay? I've not had a trailer before and I just have no concept of how big the 30 feels when squeezing it into a campsite. We've always been tent campers and look forward to having a home on wheels, but I don't want for us to choose something that will limit the places we can take it. The ability to boondock and stay slightly off the beaten path is very important. Assuming this means relatively tame dirt/fire roads, how will this come into play. I've done a lot of reading on the subject, and it seems the general consensus is that 25' or smaller is best for true boondocking access, but I don't believe that size is a realistic option for us (unless you fine folks can show me otherwise). I suppose one perk for the 30 with boondocking is larger fresh water tank.

We would like to have a year to practice with the trailer before going full-time in order to work out any kinks, perform any trailer customization, and simply make sure that we could make the change in lifestyle.

I'm leaning heavily on the experience and knowledge of each of you. If you full-time, what trailer did you choose and why, and would you choose differently a second time.

Thank you to all! I look forward to the conversations ahead...

7-14.5 Tires or?

1958 18' Traveler, tires are weathered & time to replace.

I have read allot of good about these bias ply tires but wanted to get some feedback before buying new ones.

Battery Acid Spill

Somehow I had a battery cell cover pop off or I somehow left it open on my left side group 65 battery. This allowed the acid in three cells to splash around that side of the engine compartment. I'm thinking this went on for several days until the truck would not start, which is how I found the problem. Fortunately we were home in the driveway at this point, having just returned from a trip to Colorado.

Besides ruining the battery the acid has also done some damage of it's own, eating paint off parts, etc. I neutralized it with a water and baking soda solution and then rinsed that off, but I'm wondering if there is more I should do. I'm worried that this may have created a situation for further corrosion and rust if I don't do more i.e. repainting parts and undercarriage, etc, but I'm unsure if that's over kill.

I've tried recharging the affected battery with no luck so I'm replacing both batteries.

More storage - Cargo Netting!

Cargo netting is a great way to secure stuff so that it doesn't go flying if you hit a pothole while going down the road. My worst nightmare - a cake mix or anything else containing flour coming out of the over the fridge cabinet. Poof! You'd never get it all cleaned out.

http://ift.tt/1tvUhlM

In addition cargo netting can give you a remarkable amount of storage in awkward spaces. I now stow my coffee cups on the ROOF of the cabinet over the stove - yep. Here's a link for Camping World nets. The same stuff is available elsewhere. I took a piece of the 6 inch by 24/28 inch and screwed it into the curved ceiling behind the sliding doors. Four coffee cups nestle quite comfortably and I can SEE them which is much better than feeling around on the bottom of the cabinet. I got one of the framed 12 x 16 inch ones and put it in the bedroom half length closet just above the rod. Six inches of wasted space now hold my socks.

It just occurred to me that the back of the closets where the walls curve can be wasted space. I might get a few more netting pockets for shoes, cleaning supplies, etc.

With the Eddie Bauer I might just put a net on the bottom of the roadside dinette bench and "hang" my Dyson stick vacuum... I never have found another good spot to keep the darned thing handy yet out of sight.

Tough to find

Hi all

It has been a while since I have posted anything. That's not to say that a lot of work has been accomplished on the Mistress but I will post pics of that later.

My question concerns the main door lock. My key cylinder is bent which means that the post on the end of the tumbler cylinder that moves the lock to the unlocked or lock position doesn't properly engage. The rest of the lock is just fine but I need a new key cylinder. The locksmith commented that the tumbler cylinder is unusual as it is very long but is going to go through his catalogs tonight to try and find a replacement.

Does anyone know of a part replacement or have a spare key cylinder for our main door lock.

Cheers

Tony

Dehumidifier Use with A/C

2014 Sport 22 FB, 13.5 Dometic A/C. A/C works fine, drain line not clogged, drips water like crazy from the drain line. My issue is the balance between indoor and outdoor temperature overnight, and the dehumidification process.

We run the A/C overnight and will wake up to an indoor temperature between 72 & 75 degrees per my little portable thermometer. Outdoor temperature will be around 80 degrees. The same thermometer also gives a humidity reading, and when we get up it is not unusual for that reading to be 80% or more humidity. My conclusion is that the outdoor temperature has dropped enough that the A/C does not have to run that much to keep the indoor temperature steady, and as a result the humidity level rises.

Would a small dehumidifier running overnight help in this regard? Should I open the roof vent a bit? Run the roof vent fan on low in addition to the A/C?

BTW, it is two adults and one 18 lb. dog sleeping inside overnight.

AC not working with generator

Hello. We've had our 2014 AI for three weeks now (and this forum has been great help for us newbies). It's the first time we've tried running the AC with the generator (shore power disconnected). The generator is working correctly; however, the AC won't turn on. There is an error code ("E7") on the thermostat. Has anyone experienced the same and/or knows how to remedy the situation?

Thanks in advance,

Troy

"Smart" LP Gas Detectors

Searched the various threads about LP gas detectors, but want to take it two steps further. I have a 1961 Trade Wind (originally no lp, fire or anything detectors). The original Dometic is now running, LP only (no electric). I am not using the furnace as am installing a heat pump A/C unit and have replaced with original water heater with a new LP and/or electric heat model. Stove is the original pilotless thing from 1961 that needs to stay as it matches the fridge. I will use my trailer mostly for dog shows, so will have me and the dogs. I have heard there are some detectors that will automatically shut off the LP gas when the alarm goes off (really like that idea). Also, are there any that will notify you by email or text like many of the temp alarms will? To really add to the want list - would be great to combine a "smart" LP/smoke/CO2/temp detector system, but thinking that is probably hoping for too much?

Busy day on the MH

Spent the day working on issues discovered on our last trip on my 92 36' LY.

1st:

Brakes were a little weak but they have been that way since purchase. Decided to go ahead and begin the process of replacing rotors, pads and calipers. Since I already had a complete set of 4 loaded Wagner calipers with thermal quiet pads and 2 new front rotors, it just came down to me getting off my lazy butt and doing it. The only problem I ran into was getting those darn 8 bolts that hold the rotor to the hub out. Ended up having to take it to the local garage to put more torque on them that my compressor and impact wrench could muster. After that it was really a piece of cake. Just a tad heavy but that's pretty much the norm when working on a MH.:bb:

2nd:

Noticed that the temps were getting a little higher then I liked so I decided to do a complete coolant flush and replaced the thermostat with a new high grade 180 degree unit. The old thermostat ran close to 210 degrees. Once installed the new one runs closer to 190. Only difficulty was getting the stupid rubber O-ring in the thermostat housing to seal correctly. Once I figured it out, it installed without any leaks. Had to put a new ring terminal on the ground wires that bolted to the thermostat housing. The wires just broke off as I unscrewed the first nut. No big deal. Old coolant was a very nice green color, so no rust issues.:D

3rd:

On the trip home I found that I couldn't build more the 10psi pressure on the TAG axle airbags. I ran the engine for a while testing the thermostat which ran the compressor for the airbags. After I shut down the engine I heard a distinct hissing noise coming from the front. It sounded like it was coming from behind an insulation pad along the top of the firewall. I pulled it down and found the source of the sound. Seems like there's a 1/8" OD plastic tubing that runs (I'm guessing) to the pressure monitor in the dash. Turned out that the tubing was run VERY tight and was rubbing on a hardware piece near the firewall. It ended up rubbing through the tubing and produced the leak. I temporarily put some gorilla tape over the leak and the pressure started to rise until the tape failed. That was enough to prove to me that the problem wasn't with the airbags but with the small tube that went to the gauge that monitored the airbag pressure. I located a 1/8"OD to 1/8"OD union on ebay so I'll see what happens when it arrives. I figure I'll just cut the tubing where it's leaking and put the union in between. Hopefully that will fix the "airbag" issue. It will also allow me to run the tubing under a large wire harness that was putting stress on the short tubing.

Last week I had to drop the genset and replace the fuel pump. That took several hours along. Hopefully this will be the end of the "tough" jobs for a while.

Tired now so I guess I'll grab a beer and relax.

Surfin Safari :: 1963 Airstream Safari (2014-07-30 20:51:57)

Strategy going forward

My wife and I are debating what to do next. Both ideas have merit, so we are throwing them up to the more knowledgeable. We know that the frame is going to need repair. Just not sure how much yet. The question is are we better off taking the shell off now and getting the frame out to look at or just pull the subfloor up from the inside and get some estimates and advice before going much further?

Also on a side note, any tips for removing buck rivets on the outside? Drilled them out and went 2 for 2 on snapped drill bits. These weren't crud bits, they were good kobalt bits.

I need to replace the fuel pump. Any help out there? Are there two? one in tank and one chassis/frame mounted?

Water Fill Compartment Lock

greetings all,

i have a '76 Trade Wind that we're slowly refurbishing.

i was going to sanitize my water tanks, but i'm having a problem with the lock on the water fill door.

it doesn't want to open.

i've used WD40 and some graphite, but nothing so far.

from the "locked" position (12 o'clock), the key turns slightly to the left (10 o'clock) and stays there. the door does get a little loose, but remains shut.

any recommendations?

thanks

Hehr window repair

I have discovered a broken window operator on our 06 Safari. Checked out the web, and the part is on order.

This looks like it is a very tight fit, getting the screws out of the old one and the new one in.

Does anyone have any tips on this repair? I would appreciate any input.

Thanks,

Barry

WBCCI number spoofs?

I am not a member of WBCCI and might get some flack for suggesting this, but I just thought it might be a nutty idea to put some numbers on the trailer as sort of an inside joke for other Airstream owners. 007, 69, 666, other possibilities as well. Maybe use a color other than red.

Anyone done this or seen it?

Best Airstream Campgrounds near Jackson, WY and GTNP?

What's Wrong with the '80's?

After spending the last 3 months looking for an SOB and just getting tired of rotted roofs, floors, and delaminated walls. Then trying to avoid that by looking newer (a 4-year old Jayco Jayflight is depreciating still at $2500 a year?!), I decided to take a girlfriends advice and look at an Airstream (actually it was an Avion).

Oooh! Ahh! Preeety!

In which I immediately found extensive hidden floor rot.

Still, decided to keep looking and get educated. Love the curves and interiors of the '70's Airstreams which are also in my price range. Then saw endless threads and horror show pics of tail droop and floor separation. :bash:

Turned to Avions but in anything but the whales (tri-axel 34-footers), the floor plan I want--rear bath/center double, or side bath/rear double, is very rare. Crap!

Think I may have found a sound, mostly all mechanicals already replaced '71 Ambassador with original interior, only to discover how much ya'll love your laminate interiors. <sigh>

Plus, I would like a biggish doorside window, which doesn't start until '79?

So, what's wrong with the '80's? What do I need to look out for?

Summerizing - storing in a hot climate

So I pulled our Argosy over to beautiful Ellensburg WA and arranged to leave it in a secure storage yard while I'm not using it at the local KOA. It's hitting over 100 degrees here during the day, and I'm wondering if I really should be leaving her alone in that type of heat.

I did find that the new Armstrong Vinyl flooring I installed earlier this year has buckled. Probably from expansion and I cut the stuff too tight to the walls. I'll fix that, but I'm really more concerned about heat and how it affects (or is it effects - no I think it's affects) things like my pex plumbing, my refridgerator, AC, converter etc.

So basically, is there a "summerizing" process vs a winterizing process for storage?

Where are the most common areas for Roof Leaks?

I am stripping the clear coat tomorrow and intend on recaulding the roof and window seals. I have been getting water leaks in the ceiling along the seam and not sure where it is coming from ==== where are the most common areas to seal and should I even worry about the seams on the roof?

Is it ok to only strip clear coat and not polish?

I am stripping the clear coat on my 1971 25 foot Caravanner International tomorrow. I have 5 friends helping and we are using Aircraft Paint Remover. We will brush on the Aircraft paint remover then power wash off the clear coat. I do not plan on buffing for many months and wonder if this is a problem for possible rusting or??

For now, is there any quick and simple way to polish without taking 200 hours? Is there any quicker hand and towel polish that would work if I had just man power?

Dump Handle Movement

In the absence of an owners manual, could someone please inform me as to the range and angle of motion of the dump T handle on LaTortuga, a 74 22' rear door Argosy?

I would also like the thank the many contributors to this forum, it is invaluable. I can see where this would have been a much more difficult project in the dark, distant, pre-internet times.

Avion: Modifying a Center Twin into a Center Double

Hi All!

Saw my first Avion only 10 days ago and I'm hooked and on the hunt here in Michigan. Looking for a 28 to 31-footer. Drove over two hours to see Chuck Cayo Thursday and picked his brain for a while.

Problem: I want a center double and Chuck said those were only about 2% of production. Has anyone out there modified a center twin into a center double? I know I could more easily modify a rear twin but, other than tri-axels which are too big for me, the 30P Center Twins and the 28-31 La Grande Center Twins seem to be a lot easier to come by that 30R's.

Thx!

New Dreamer

We have been bit by the bug. We have been completely inspired to say the least by some great bloggers out there. We are looking to buy a 30' in the next year or so. Our plan is to use it for long vacations and work toward a longer term goal of hitting the road full time with the kids.

We are currently stuck on one decision though. We cannot decide if we would be better off with a Queen and Bunk setup or just he bunks and lounge at the other end.

I would love to have the dining with panoramic views but having a dedicated sleeping space for us parents would be nice. I would appreciate any input on that :)

DFW Vintage Repair

I just procured a '72 Land Yacht and was wondering if anyone could recommend a repair shop in the DFW Metroplex (I live in Ft Worth). I searched back and some of the old recs seem to be closed or no longer servicing AS. Thanks.

The Difference Between Men and Women

The Difference Between Men And Women.

Let's say a guy named Fred is attracted to a woman named Martha. He asks her out to a movie; she accepts; they have a pretty good time. A few nights later he asks her out to dinner, and again they enjoy themselves. They continue to see each other regularly, and after a while neither one of them is seeing anybody else.

And then, one evening when they're driving home, a thought occurs to Martha, and, without really thinking, she says it aloud: "Do you realize that, as of tonight, we've been seeing each other for exactly six months?"

And then, there is silence in the car.

To Martha, it seems like a very loud silence. She thinks to herself: I wonder if it bothers him that I said that. Maybe he's been feeling confined by our relationship; maybe he thinks I'm trying to push him into some kind of obligation that he doesn't want, or isn't sure of.

And Fred is thinking: Gosh. Six months.

And Martha is thinking: But, hey, I'm not so sure I want this kind of relationship either. Sometimes I wish I had a little more space, so I'd have time to think about whether I really want us to keep going the way we are, moving steadily towards, I mean, where are we going? Are we just going to keep seeing each other at this level of intimacy? Are we heading toward marriage? Toward children? Toward a lifetime together? Am I ready for that level of commitment? Do I really even know this person?

And Fred is thinking: ...so that means it was...let's see...February when we started going out, which was right after I bought my 2001 30' Airstream Classic from Captain Chris, which means...lemme check the calender...Whoa! I am way overdue for receiving my new decal order from Cap!!

And Martha is thinking: He's upset. I can see it on his face. Maybe I'm reading this completely wrong. Maybe he wants more from our relationship, more intimacy, more commitment; maybe he has sensed - even before I sensed it - that I was feeling some reservations. Yes, I bet that's it. That's why he's so reluctant to say anything about his own feelings. He's afraid of being rejected.

And Fred is thinking: And I'm gonna have Cap look at my decal order to see if I can change to a 2015 set. And he better not try to talk me into a new Classic, darn him.

And Martha is thinking: He's angry. And I don't blame him. I'd be angry, too. I feel so guilty, putting him through this, but I can't help the way I feel. I'm just not sure.

And Fred is thinking: Cap will probably say it's only a 90-day wait for a new set of 2015 decals.

And Martha is thinking: Maybe I'm just too idealistic, waiting for a knight to come riding up on his white horse, when I'm sitting right next to a perfectly good person, a person I enjoy being with, a person I truly do care about, a person who seems to truly care about me. A person who is in pain because of my self-centered, schoolgirl romantic fantasy.

And Fred is thinking: 90 day wait??? Heck, I was going to put those decals on before my Canadian fishing trip in a month. Guess I'll have to just leave with what 's on it now, so be it.

"Fred," Martha says aloud.

"What?" says Fred, startled.

"Please don't torture yourself like this," she says, her eyes beginning to brim with tears. "Maybe I should never have...oh dear, I feel so..."(She breaks down, sobbing.)

"What?" says Fred.

"I'm such a fool," Martha sobs. "I mean, I know there's no knight. I really know that. It's silly. There's no knight, and there's no horse."

"There's no horse?" says Fred.

"You think I'm a fool, don't you?" Martha says.

"No!" says Fred, glad to finally know the correct answer.

"It's just that...it's that I...I need some time," Martha says.

(There is a 15-second pause while Fred, thinking as fast as he can, tries to come up with a safe response. Finally he comes up with one that he thinks might work.)

"Yes," he says. (Martha, deeply moved, touches his hand.)

"Oh, Fred, do you really feel that way?" she says.

"What way?" says Fred.

"That way about time," says Martha.

"Oh," says Fred. "Yes." (Martha turns to face him and gazes deeply into his eyes, causing him to become very nervous about what she might say next, especially if it involves a horse. At last she speaks.)

"Thank you, Fred," she says.

"Thank you," says Fred.

Then he takes her home, and she lies on her bed, a conflicted, tortured soul, and weeps until dawn, whereas when Fred gets back to his place, he opens a bag of Doritos, turns on the TV, and immediately becomes deeply involved in a rerun of the Boise State-Oklahoma football game from 2007, while reading his latest Trailer Life. A tiny voice in the far recesses of his mind tells him that something major was going on back there in the car, but he is pretty sure there is no way he would ever understand what, and so he figures it's better if he doesn't think about it.

The next day Martha will call her closest friend, or perhaps two of them, and they will talk about this situation for six straight hours. In painstaking detail, they will analyze everything she said and everything he said, going over it time and time again, exploring every word, expression, and gesture for nuances of meaning, considering every possible ramification.

They will continue to discuss this subject, off and on, for weeks, maybe months, never reaching any definite conclusions, but never getting bored with it either.

Meanwhile, Fred, while playing racquetball one day with a mutual friend of his and Martha's, will pause just before serving, frown, and say: "Norm, did Martha ever own a horse?"

And that's the difference between men and women.

What are these?

Anyone have any idea what these are and even if they are from an Airstream? I pulled them out of a cabinet from my 1961. The two small things, each about 8 inches long, are aluminum. The larger piece is painted and appears to be steel. I have not idea what they are, but do not want to toss them until I am positive they are not from the trailer!

Me here

Hi Airstreamers. I'm new to the forum, but not to Airstreaming. Our current trailer is a 31 ft. 2000 Excella, which is our third Airstream trailer. My wife and I started in the 1980's with a restored 22 ft. 1963 Excella.

We are not fulltimers, but have traveled for many years from our home in the East to the far reaches of this country, as well as Mexico and Canada for as long as 10 months at a time. A great lifestyle. The last few years we've been homebodies, but will probably hit the road again soon.

Title: Add New - Airstream Trailer Classifieds - Airstream Trailers For Sale

I just posted a new ad on Airstream Classifieds.

A few pieces from my Tradewind. All seem to be in pretty good shape, but not tested. The only one known to have a problem is the regulator - it works, just does not let enough gas flow.

There is:

Sanflush toilet with valve. Looks to be in good shape, no cracks.

Regulator

Compressor for water system

Faucet for bath/shower - needs packing.

These are all free if someone can hopefully use them. Here is the catch - local pick up only in Indianapolis within the next week. I might be able to take them to the UPS Store, if I can do it in one trip, but all charges - packing, shipping, everything - is on you. You will need to call the store with your credit card.

Various rules to follow?

While perusing my owners manual from 1973 I noticed that there was a listing State by State of speed limits for trailers, whether or not one could overnight in a rest area, rules regarding dogs, all kinds of useful information. OK useful once upon a time long long ago... Is there a similar resource available now?

Replacement for Fantastic Fan

It seems that many are having the problem we are fighting: The leaking fantastic fan! Has anyone discovered a better substitute?

And, a related question: I will have to drill some of the screw heads to get the fan off. I am having a difficult time reaching all of the screws from a ladder. Does anyone know if the roof in the area over the bedroom in a 94 34 ft Excella is strong enough for my 200 lb weight?

'76 door lock question

While I think I already know the answer; does anyone know a source for repairing this lock?

(clearly I don't know how the "insert image" function works. I'll keep trying and will post it eventually.)

Key just spins now. AS is a 1976 Sovereign. Everything still works except the locking function.

Any help, suggestions, comments much appreciated.

leaky sink faucet

My 2005 Safari has a leaky Moen 87315 faucet. What is a suitable replacement model?

Adding panels on top of panels instead of replacing?

So the lower corner panels on all 4 of my corners are dinged up or scratched in one way or another.

These seem to just wrap around and don't have any crazy form like the upper corners.

My idea is to just rivet new panels right over the messed up ones instead of getting rock guards (the trailer is a 72) and instead of replacing the panels.

Keep in mind: I have all interior skin and insulation already removed for a shell off.

And: I can see these places getting constantly beat up over the years and would love a solution I can repeat without taking the whole inside of the trailer apart again.

So what do you think? Double layer corners or not? Thanks!!!!

Dashboard AC question

OK folks, I've been struggling with a 134 conversion of my Dash AC, and have the following question for anyone who has a working dash AC:

My clutch pulley has 2 belt grooves, should there be 2 belts or just one? Thanks!

We just listed our 2007 Airstream Classic for Sale on Airstream Classifieds.

Year: 2007 Make: Airstream Model: Classic Length: 31'

We are moving and so sadly we have decided to part with our Airstream 31ft. Classic Limited Anniversary Edition Trailer. This unit has seen little use and the only way that you'll get one in better shape is to buy a new one and that will cost you well over $100,000.

This trailer will sleep four and has a built in sound system and flat screen TV, electric tongue jack and awnings on all windows.

It is equipped with the Hensley Arrow sway eliminating hitch (a $4000 option)

As stated before this trailer is in A1 condition and will offer many years of service. Airstreams are built to last.

The price is firm. We are not desperate to sell and will not entertain offers less than the listed price. Feel free to offer more though:-)

Four new brand new tires just installed and never driven on.

Note: I am using Canadian dollars. Exchange rate is favourable for buyers at this time.

Anyone using this tire on your tow vehicle? Probably would be on a late model 2500 GM, and if so, how's it working for you? How many miles? Any problems with them?

Tips or suggestions for our DC - Nevada roadtrip?

We're taking a 18 day trip in a few days and am looking for some suggestions on interesting sites or activities. We'll be traveling with our 4 kids (4, 6, 8, and 9 yo.) and planning to spend most of our nights in the Interstate. Due to limited days, we're going to focus on the northern part of the US. We had initially planned to go to the Grand Canyon via the southern states, but we decided to visit the northern part of the country instead since it won't be as hot as AZ in the middle of the summer. We'll do the southern US this Christmas break when it's cooler.

This will be our 2nd long trip with the Interstate. In the Spring, we took our first RV trip ever. We were on the road for 2 weeks starting from DC to Key West to Houston and back. We drove almost 5K miles. Not a bad maiden voyage right? =) A few weeks ago, we took a relatively short trip to Myrtle Beach. In 2 more days, we're ready to head out for our longest jaunt to date. And as usual, we have no idea where we're going except West. <--This is the main benefit of having an RV for us.

So as of now, our definite stops will be Chicago, Mount Rushmore, and Denver. The furthest West we are looking at going is possibly Salt Lake City. I'm hoping some of you can help fill in the itinerary with interesting places you may or may not have been in your travels. Examples of things that interest us: historic sites, scenic, etc...from ghost mining towns, Rock & Roll HOF, national parks. If it's interesting or unique, we're up for it. We're out to make memories with the kids.

Thanks...

Ben

Appliance replacements

Hello...renos still going on. I am thinking of replacing the original water heater and furnace. I have been reading various opinions about different types. I was hoping that everyone had some opinions of what is best and what I should be looking for. I am in the process of changing out all the plumbing to pex with a manifold system, shut off valves and a future antifreeze attachment. So I figure if I am going to all of this I should change out the original appliances although I am going to keep the fridge and oven. Thanks.

Awning window mechanism

I have a 1980 Excella with the awning style windows and twist arms for opening/closing and locking in an open position. Some windows will not stay in an open position. Best I can figure the small rod in the arm mechanism is rounded from use and will not hold in the hole in the window frame. Before looking at the window closely I purchased a few plastic window position guides, but found out I have a different setup.

I figure I need to get some replacement pins to solve my immediate problem, probably requires removing the windows, which looks straightforward. I was wondering if I could, or if anyone has, retrofitted the plastic guides in place of the aluminum bar with holes that the dowels on the window mechanism fit into. As it is you have to twist the operating rod just right to release the dowel from the hole. The plastic mechanism looks a lot easier to operate, particularly for a senior citizen.

Olympic National Park Help Please!

We are thinking about a spur of the moment trip to Olympic National Park, do you think we will find sites available in or just outside the park on such short notice? Also, any suggestions for places to stay or things to see in that area would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks in advance!

Everything works including all slide doors on closets, fridge, and toilet. Interior in good condition. Exterior could use a buffing but sound. Has mid-cabin double bed. Roll up awning.

Front side windows developed small leak which created rotted spot on plywood flooring and floor strut. Front hitch connection to main frame on left side needs reinforcement. Right side already done. Comes with load distribution hitch and ball setup.

'96 Classic Rear Bedroom Cabinet Separation

We have a 1996 Classic Excella 1000. We appear to be experiencing some separation of the rear bedroom cabinetry from the street side wall. It is unclear to me whether or not the upper wall brackets were ever fastened to the wall (no screws or rivets now) and there is a 1/2 inch gap between the lower wall fasteners (screws) and the wall. Is flexing of the wall the problem and should these fastenings be connected and if so what method is best?

Thanks in advance for your thoughts.

Story of the new arrival

Still unknown as to what model it is but we just purchased our first Airstream. It was originally purchased by an engineering couple who quickly put it on a freighter and transported it to Africa where it spent about half of it's life. When it was brought back to Canada it was sold to the people we bought it from. They brought it home to their acreage and used it n their property for their version of camping and for extra bedrooms for the last 20 years. Now it resides with us where it will get the love and nurturing it deserves.

I'm no newbie to the nurturing of old vehicles. I'm a lover of old VW's and have restored a few and have a couple still. Our first camper was a '67 VW Riviera camper that served us well until the kids could no longer use the Cot.

Airstream Single Bed Sheets

We just purchased a 28 ft. FB Airstream with two single beds. I was surprised to find out that sheets sold by Airstream to fit these beds have to be specially ordered and take three to four weeks. Will regular twin bed sheets fit? Is there anywhere besides the Airstream Store (on Airstream website) that these sheets can be purchased that doesn't take 3-4 weeks to get them. We pick our new trailer up in two weeks. Any help that you can give me will be greatly appreciated!:wally:

Generator

Went to start my generator and it is completely dead, when I hit start button after priming it, nothing happens, doesn't even make a noise.it has worked like a dream until now. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I have 2012 airstream sprinter.

Thanks in advance

New to us but she's old

My family purchased our very first Airstream a couple days ago. The problem we are having now is determining exactly what we have. The only identification markings we have on the outside of the door is the Airstream tag with the number 8282 on it. Can't find anything on the A frame but I'm not certain exactly where to look.

Water heater

I recently bought a 1994 Land Yacht and received with it the original owners handbook. The handbook clearly states that the water will be heated by the engine coolant while driving, or by propane while parked. I just checked, there are NO engine coolant lines any where near the water heater. After driving for several hours the water is NOT hot.

Does anyone have this same problem? Was this an option? What is the history of this situation? My previous motorhome had this option and it is very convenient for our mode of travel. Barb likes to wash her hair while I am driving early in the day.

Still learning, leaving in 2 weeks for a 7 week trip thru Labrador.

What psi?

I used to have the orignal size tires 7.00 / 15 with the correct pressure of 50psi

but as i could not get them here in holland ,I had to settle for the next best

and that was 8.40 / 15 and they are 10 ply .

now what is the best tire pressure for these tires ?

the trailer weighs about 2.3 tons

26 foot overlander from 1968.

Year: 1972 Make: Airstream Model: Safari Length: 23'

1972 Airstream Safari Land Yacht. Second Owner– Two couches convert to double beds, rear bathroom, awning is in good shape, new tires, INTELLI-POWER Converter with Charge Wizard, factory stabilizer jacks, central furnace, air conditioner, original Dometic refrigerator freezer. Original owner/maintenace manuals. Have done some work on this Airstream, but have kept it original where I could. The body has a couple of dings, but not leaks. I do keep a cover on it, because I store it outside under oak trees. All systems work. Fresh water tank, & dump valve need replacement. This has been a great trailer for my family. We took a 2000 mile trip through Yellowstone & South Dakota in 2006, but only use it a couple of times a year since. Kids are grown and we just don't use it anymore. We will include camping equipment; cooking, chairs, plates, glasses, etc. We would love to sell our "Brave Little Toaster" to a family that will enjoy her as much as we have.

Handle for Bedroom Door

The door latch for the folding rear bedroom door on my '90 25' Excella has failed (with a little assistance from my grandkids). I've searched here and checked the usual sources and haven't found anything. Is anyone still selling these?

1955 Bearing numbers

Help, just found and purchased a 1955 26' two axle whale tail that has been sitting for 23+ years. Need to tow about 250 miles before starting the restore and will probably replace axles. I have and will take several extra wheels and tires, but would feel much better if I had an extra set or two of bearings. The bearing might be fine and I'll pull and repack and cross my fingers and toes. Does anyone know the part number of the original bearings numbers?? Searched forum, and I'm sure the answer is out there, but I can't find it. Thanks Terry tlcbuilder@aol.com
