http://www.airforums.com/forums/f116...ct-105682.htmlVintage 1969 Airstream Tradewind Land Yacht 25â (Will be better than a new one)
Being built better than original! The trailer is an empty blank canvas for you to create your masterpiece!
This trailer is ready for your dream customization with ALL the hard foundation work being completed. Finish this out into your dream camper or make it into a food-trailer, or that specialty mobile sales trailer or even an advertisement piece. Trailer title included!
To truly appreciate all the hours spent to get the Airstream to this stage, please check out my blog I created to document the reborn journey of this trailer. Here is the link for you to copy and paste.
http://www.airforums.com/forums/f116...ct-105682.htmlThis is a frame off restoration that has ALL the major components completed and needs that special someone to see it through. I have spent 1000âs of hours restoring this beauty. A similar completely finished trailer recently sold on EBAY for over $20,000. I will continue to work on this trailer until it has been sold or completed. As I get closer and closer to completion, the price obviously will increase to reflect the additional time and money I will be putting into it. I have a running spreadsheet of total $ invested and most receipts.
I love this trailer and would love to see it through, however our family needs have changed since I started this labor of love.
This trailer is towable, but temporary tail lights would need to be wired (which I could do if needed)
What has been completedâ¦..the walk around.
THE FRAME
-Has been completely gone through
-Outriggers supports that were corroded away were replaced with new steel C-channel
-Rear Curbside frame that was rusted was cut out and replaced and reinforced with new steel.
-Original torsion axles were removed and replaced with new custom built torsion axles ordered specifically for this trailer, from Colin Hyde, a professional Airstream restorer. The axles were built for 3500lb rating, at my request, instead of the original 3000lb rating.
-The whole frame has been completely rustproofed with 2-3 coating of POR 15 rust inhibitor black paint. (This was no fun task!)
-New Axel shocks were installed
-New wheel wells were custom constructed from 1/8â steel and replaced the âtinâ sheet metal fenders. (If you have a tire blowout, it will provide extra protection from ripping the side of your trailer apart.â
-The original Airstream only had 1 waste tank. That was discarded and (2) brand new black tanks were installed on the framework, with discharge piping and valves. One for grey water and one for Black water.
-The step was removed and sandblasted. Coated with POR 15 and reinforced.
THE Aluminum SHELL
-The whole curb side aluminum was replaced with the correct aluminum.
-The front curbside was replaced
-The original Airstream Ceiling fan was replaced with a new reliable Fantastic Fan (Black)
-The tv antenna was removed and proper riveted, sealed aluminum patch was made.
-The broken radio antenna was removed and a proper riveted, sealed aluminum patch was made
-The antiquated, heavy air conditioner was removed and the AC slot has been properly reinforced to hold the brand new low profile AC for a sleeker look.
-Wall beams have been reinforced better than the factory provide.
-Weak or rotted original floor channel has been replaced with beefier aluminum C-channel.
-The aluminum shell has been properly bolted down to the steel frame with hardened steel bolts.
-The clear coat has had 4 coats of paint stripper applied to remove the factory clear coat so the trailer can be polished.
-New T-handle and hardware on rear compartment door
THE WOOD DECK FLOOR
-The ½â original wood floor was removed
-3/4â Plywood was used as a replacement to beef up the floor better than original.
-The ply wood was 3-coat, clear epoxy coated on all sides and edges, for lifetime protection from water and rot (the original untreated ½â floor lasted 40 years and was still hard to remove)
WINDOWS AND DOORS
-The entry door was completely rebuilt. The original broken Bargman lock was replaced with a newer, cleaner look, style RV door lock. The door was insulated and aluminum was reskinned.
-Both front windows have the original curved glass. The Curb side window was removed and repacked and caulked.
-I plan on sealing all the windows from the inside while the interior aluminum skin is removed.
-I have new window and door seals that will go with the trailer. Installed if I get to it.
AWNING
I have all the working hardware for the original awning that is included. The awning canvas needs to be replaced.
