For the past few weeks I have been searching for an airstream to fully restore and ultimately live in. While trying to decide on how I want the interior to look, I fell in love with airstreams where the interior aluminum end caps were exposed and polished. However, after some research it seems as though during the 1960's airstream began using fiberglass end caps in lieu of the aluminum ones. I have been having trouble finding a definitive answer on this though, and wondered if anyone had any expertise in the area. Does it have to be a 50's airstream or prior in order to have aluminum end caps? And would it be very rare to find one of these in a 26'-28' length?
