Can ABS walls/ceiling on vintage AS be replaced?

We are looking at a 1986 sovereign. The walls and ceiling appear to be paneled in ABS plastic. We wonder if there's an aluminum skin beneath the ABS or if the ABS serves as the inner skin. Either way, can ABS be painted or replaced?
